No

Boo hoo - get a second/winter job then. Do you know how long it takes to save for a 2 week holiday to Cyprus? 3 years!

Yes, I have a friend who is a taxi driver.
| kafenes wrote: |

If they charged less they would get more customers through the door - charge too much and you cutting your nose off..

Some people have no other choice than take a taxi!

That is so not true - even Rio Ferdinand hates being ripped off. It is not about being this class or that class it is about being overpriced for a simple and basic service. For christ sake, for a taxi from the airport to Coral Bay it costs 85 Euros!!!! Come on!
My rant for the evening -christ knows if I got the quotes right [/quote] |

Then don't complain about the price about a business you know nothing about.

Then take a holiday to a cheaper destination which you can afford like I do and don't complain.

Obviously if they charged less, they wouldn't be in business at all. You don't own a bar, so you wouldn't know.

If they don't have another choice then they should have calculated taxi fares in their budget before they took the holiday just like their food and entertainment.

If they can't afford a taxi from Coral Bay, then they should stay some where closer to the airport like Yeroskipou.
BTW, who the f**k is Rio Ferdinand? |

No I don't know BUT in UK and in my town in particular there are many restaurants and the one's who offer deals and/or buffetts for set price are always busy. Scaring the customer for overpriced basic meals is not the way to go....

A taxi from Shropshire to Leeds (UK) costs £70. This is approx 150 miles. A taxi from aiport to Coral costs 85 Euros and is approx 30 miles....petrol in UK is more expensive....work that one out!
Rio Ferdinand plays for Man United BTW |

I have no problem with taxi drivers if they turn the meter on, as ther are required to do by law but, so often, don't.
Still, Istanbul taxi drivers are the scariest in the world and British taxi drivers have just been voted the most miserable ocupation in the UK!

Exactly! The taxi ride is too cheap for such a brilliant and unique place
If I was Presidentess of Cyprus I would make the bus fare €30 ...
Fare's fair! ... or is that Fair fares? |

That is our problem. Now you're worried about the wellbeing of Cypriots?

The place you are talking about is not a holiday resort and works all year round with much more local population. I can have a full size kebab at my local kebab shop which deals with the locals all year round and the price is a fixed 4.00 euros.

Who gives a sh*t!
So far I have ran factories, restaurants and all sort of businesses around the world including setting up and managing duty free stores for Allders International. I have the best sales records they ever recorded. Instead of complaining I have learned to do my homework well before I start anything. If I go wrong (which I have many times and learned from it) then I blame myself and not others. |

I will have to remind Kafenes of our Famagusta taxi standbys Acropolis and Karydas. You called them, they arrived at your doorstep in seconds, charged 5 shillings a ride and they knew ALL streets of the town.
There was no tourism back then yet the taxi drivers made a living. Now with tourism they charge whatever they want, but seem not to be able to make a living. There is a conclusion to be drawn from that......
Last year I paid 70 Euros to go from Limassol to Nissou. No meter. Same distance in Greece is about a third, while diesel and cars are more expensive. |
