Cyprus' Religious Cultural Heritage in Peril

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Can you seriously claim that every single Mosque left down South has been taken care of and in good condition?

I very much doubt it as I am sure I have seen pictures proving otherwise.

Personally speaking, I couldn't give a rats ass if every single Mosque disappears tomorrow from the face of this island, so as much as I try, I just cannot feel any sympathy towards your loss, but I stress that this is just me.

But if your Church are so precious, than surely so must be our Mosques right?

Some mosques are in a state of disrepair , but have not been wantonly desecrated .You have nothing to be proud about the willful destruction of Cypriot religious and historical sites . Such acts are condemned by the world all over , there is no justification , the fact that you and I do not accept religion is not an excuse.
What do you have to say about the late revelations in Pakistan that Turkish involvement in Al Qaeda is on the increase , could we witness such expansion of Al Qaeda involvement in Cyprus ?

I was just objecting to the fact that no one down South seems to really care about our stuff yet they can do a great job on whinging about theirs here.

Respect for heritage does not only cover particular ethnicity's, either you have respect for everyone's and demand the same from all, or you don't!

I mean Mr GR here does not even believe that there could possibly be any TC artifacts

If you want my opinion regarding the Al Qaeda deal you have to give me more than that Miltiades, maybe a link?

I gave you the opportunity of a lifetime to inform Greek Cypriots of the kind of TC "ancient artifacts" one might find here, but the closest to an answer we got was someone’s embroidery or the fluff in the pockets of a corpse… :?

Actually they were both your answers if I remember correctly GR.

Mosques are definitely one and I hope you are not seriously claiming that during the 500 years of presence there has been no artifacts left from neither the TC's nor the Ottoman presence.

That is just plain stupid.

Please inform us… what kind of valuable "gadgets" would one find in a mosque besides an abandoned prayer mat? :?

"around 500 churches and religious sites belonging to the Greek-Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Cyprus, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Holy Monastery of St. Katherine in Sinai, the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic-Armenian Church, the Catholic-Maronite Church, the Jewish community, as well as the Protestant Church, along with their cemeteries have been willfully desecrated, pillaged, looted and destroyed". He added that Christian churches have been converted, inter-alia, into military camps, stables, hotels, theaters, nightclubs and sports clubs, while "the church of the Savior in the Chrysiliou-village is used today as a mortuary".

Where is the outrage?!

Any kind of handcraft made 500 years ago would be considered an artifact GR, does not necessarily have to be from a Mosque.

Don't play the stupid, it is a waste of time.

Of the stolen antiquities and religious artifacts cases investigated around the world, so far there has not been a single one involving TC or Islamic artifacts. There have been numerous cases with icons and antiquities, the most famous being the Kanakaria virgin recovered in the USA.

It is interesting to note that the defence of lawful provenance put up by the buyer sof these items usually points to someone in official capacity in the TRNC.

The matter has been documented time and again and is now beyond dispute- some people in the north are systematically trading in religious artifacts and antiquities. As a doctor friend from Famagusta said: "when you see sudden wealth in Cyprus then look for antiquities trading, drugs or being in the service of a foreign power", how right he has turned out to be!

As for the tit for tat approach, ie has the RoC taken care of mosques etc. Frankly, no, the RoC has not taken care of mosques except for very few, such as the Larnaca Tekke and a handful in Nicosia and Limassol. But we must also admit that there has been no systematic looting of mosques.

Re for GRs question, what can you find in a mosque, the answer is a lot, if you know where to look. Islamic art, excluding as it does any representation of persons, is very rich in decorative motifs tha can be found i removable tiles and paintings. Thankfullly no one has yet tried to trade in these from the RoC.

Now that GR knows that, the market will be flooded. How else can he finance his uprising with his 15 reprobates?
