In UK terms, it is probably 30-40% more expensive than 2 years ago, primarily due to the exchange rate.

And the quaint Cypriot marketing idea that when the customer numbers go down, put your prices UP to make good the shortfall. Unbelievable.

It's all about marketing. Does BMW lower their prices just because the economy is crap? Hell, no. They have a certain clientele they're trying to service and if they muddy the waters, they damage their brand.

Good on Cyprus - raise prices even more as it keeps the trash away.

Can I say about this "trash" business that it isn't nice to label anyone outside the Jurkish Army as "trash"

... and look at the destruction of the CY coastal environment with its poor, practically unrestricted development. There's the real trash and if you have allowed that sort of trashy development then you have no hope of attracting what some here have described, on a large number of tourism posts, as a more "desirable clientele"

... but let me remind one and all that we must never forget the events of '74 in the context of tourism. The Roc needed money and people needed jobs. What a turnaround from the devastation of '74 in a very, very small number of years. Much if the recovery due to income from mass tourism.

@Shelpiero - Quite Right, holidays are holidays. A time to push the boat out for a couple of weeks. Worry about it back home.

If we avoid the touristy areas, follow the usual rule of dining and shopping where the locals do, CY still offers good value for money.

Living here is not more expensive than living in UK ... I don't know about Sweden. Coming for holidays in Cyprus is more expensive than living in UK. When I went for holidays to France and Italy I spend close to 5000 Euro each time. It doesn't mean I would spend that much if I was just living there!

If you fill like that we can go to Turkey

Turkey is a 3rd world country. They can be cheaper because they give much lower salaries which is why the GDP - per capita of Turkey is less than half of that of Cyprus. Do you know any developed country which is trying to compete in price with 3rd world countries?

I think if you look at the whole picture instead of say perhaps food prices I believe it is cheaper to live in Cyprus than UK.

Housing/rents etc.
car, petrol etc.
Community charge.
Water, electric etc.
Food/drink etc
Health care etc.

I have no desire to live in the occupied area or in Turkey and you would have to drag me back kicking and screaming to the UK as I have no wish
to live there either

Yes, some things are cheaper in the UK but look at the bloody awful crime, the crap weather, The unemployment situation, the stress factor, the miserable people and an inept government.

Try to guess if I am saying that Cyprus is more expensive then Sweden :D
I can be a low class person that's ok however I do not think Cyprus can be ignorant to the prices argument in travelling and tourism.
Today most Swedish people is going to other places for holiday and that is my point. You need to ask why?

O and I am so sorry to miss spell some words I know that it is doing my argument useless and me to a low class person.
