By all accounts that's a pretty good performance by the Cypriots, and shame about the final result. They must be rising up the world rankings at around the same rate as Scotland are plummeting. Come back King Kenny! |

A little consolation for my compatriots after the heartbreaking loss in Italy…
Cyprus crowned World Champion in School Football
“Cyprus was crowned Sunday world champion in the World Schools Championship 2009 that took place in Antalya, Turkey, 5 - 13 April.
The Cypriot team beat South Africa 4-1 in the final game and was crowned world champion “thus achieving one of the greatest successes not only for school sports but for Cypriot sport in general”, a press release by the Ministry of Education and Culture says.”

Furious Marcello Lippi Pushes Journalist & Cameras Aside After Cyprus Win, Describing Fans As Shameful
"A furious Marcello Lippi has caused controversy in Parma after pushing a journalist and his cameraman aside following the 3-2 win over Cyprus in Italy's final World Cup qualifier.
The coach launched a stinging attack on the fans inside the stadium, and claimed they have bought "shame" on the national side.
A clearly angered Lippi lost his temper during his post match interview, bringing back echoes of his last press bust-up back in Germany 2006."
