| Zeliş made another attempt to get into the last 10 of the Eurovision finals but got eliminated by an all GC assesment panel. |

Zelis was a very good performer in the final last year... her musical-style song was not for Eurovision however. Just not catchy enough on a first-listen, no hook-line for people to memorise it. If it won Cyprus would stay in the semi-finals again.
2010 hopefuls... Cybc say the standard in entries is higher.
Plus, in the mix some credible names like Constantinos Christoforou, Nicole Paparistodemou & Mike Connaris, Hovig from X Factor.
Cypriot Eurovision standards have to rise, the battle to win in the semis, to reach the final... is much tougher.
Hope for a great final... may the best song win! |

My song didn't make the final ten, but then, I didn't expect it to. It wasn't catchy enough for the first time listener and the lyrics were a bit abstract to understand from the first time. It was a song from a project of 4 unplugged style songs with all acoustic instruments and some friends insisted I send for the competition. Next year maybe I might do one specially designed for Eurovision. |

| I spoke to Zeliş and she states that the song was great much much better than last years and she was very disappointed it didnt make the last 10. How can were we check to see if it was racial discrimination? This is the proble we would always face in a united Cyprus, if the evaluation panel is made up of purely GCs then there will always be a question mark as to was the song judged on merit alone or was it because she is a TC?? |

Now how can you explain how Zeliş made the top 10 last year? Where was the "racism" with the "GC panel"? Perhaps they mis-read her name on the forms. Don't think so.
It is very easy to label things as "racist" when events don't go your way. That is life, in every facet. We win, we lose, sometimes.
Further to your point, did you know, a non-Cypriot also qualified in the 10... Why would a "patriotic GC panel" choose a non-Cypriot? Her name is Milena Staneva with a tune called 'Play'.
Zeliş her song in 2010 may have been good there is a solution here.
RIK get around 70 entries, perhaps have a semi-final with 20-30 songs. The best ones are voted into the final. I am pretty confident that this latest entry by, Zeliş, would have been selected in this way. To allow, a separate, qualifier then the final.
Plus, a boyband in 2004 had Turkish Cypriot lads with fellow Greek-Cypriots, in the Cypriot final that year. They scored well but Lisa Andreas did brilliant... coming top 5 in Eurovision! |

The problem we will always face in a united Cyprus where the selecting panel is purely made up of GCs is the doubt the question mark in the TCs minds, how will we prove that the decision is in fact racist and that the song was much better than the rest, arent we left to the mercy of a GC panel which after all do not have the best record for non racism with us or now the EU. This also apply to the voting public who are predominately GCs and continue to hate everything Turkish including the TCs. How can it proven that the decision was in fact non racist? if after for example 10 years of not one TC making the final 10 be proof? how would you feel if you were a TC knowing full well that the panel however good your entry was would never vote you into the last 10 let alone the GC public voting you to represent a united Cyprus? |
