It seems a nice idea, but everyone has a different sense of "provacation, insulting etc.

When it comes to the voting, I dont' think they are reliable.

i am guilty as anyone but it wont work. who would decide? would be a ''me and my friends senario''

everyone gets involved so there is no point.

maybe a big brother style eviction of the forum.

I am done in this forum until you guys find a way of cleaning the forum without evicting anybody (That would make forum anti-democratic) without censorship but at the same time finding a way of appeasing the people who want to have a decent discussion without hearing provocation, insults, swearing and name calling.

If you decide to stop conributing to the forum it will be a sad loss imo. Forums evolve. As they become bigger then often the atmosphere changes. I for one want a forum that allows and promotes serious and respectful discussion. I believe you want the same. For me leaving he forum because some posters behave in ways that undermine this objective is to simply give up. Can you not continue to have discussions and making your (valued - by me and others I suspect) contributions and just ignore the 'noise'. It is inevitable that in fora like this there is a high signla to noise ratio and the more members there are the worse this gets. That does not mean there is no longer any value in the signal, even if it can become harder to detect amongst the noise, as I see it.

I don't agree with turkcyp's suggestion, much as I'd like to.

I can't remember who said it, but he was certainly right: 'the price of freedom is eternal vigilance'. In a free forum, then, you're bound to get all the crap along with the good stuff. You can't choose what you get.

Now, the moderators are doing the vigilance; they can't be perfect, nor are we entitled to demand perfection from them.

My suggestion to you, turkcyp, is to disregard all the comments which you find moronic, and only respond to those that satisfy your 'quality' standards; even a private 'agreement' between you and those who you deem to be posters of high calibre to refrain from responding to remarks of no substance would not be out of bounds, imo. People won't just talk to themselves! Not for long, anyway...

EDIT: Oops! I seem to have been writing up my post while erolz was posting his. Well, OK, we're essentially saying the same thing.

This problem will not be solved with just editing people's posts for offensive writing.

About the voting anybody who has at least say 300 posts (or an agreed number which is not too low, on order to prevent pseudo-people voting) should be able to vote about who gets to go to that special forum. Initially 10 people can be chosen for that forum and then can be expanded periodically when people clean their acts.

Ordinarily I hate this kind of elitist approaches but in this case it sounds like an only solution. Anybody has another suggestion which does not involve evicting people out, I am here to listen. But until then

Have a good day everybody.

I agree that something has to be done about some of the personal attacks in this forum. Until members take some responsability for their comments that they post then the then this will continue. As I have said elsewhere there has to be consistancy with what is acceptable and what is deemed offensive.

As for you threatening to leave the forum until some kind of action is taking that's fine.

I just think that you are acting like a big girls blouse.

Dont throw your toys out of your pram if you dont get what you what.

I hope I dont sound like the Demetriou Appreciation Society but he is right. I've read some of your post and you have a lot to offer this forum.

Sometimes people can be too serious. Continue to post in your specialist areas and leave us "idiots" alone.

Maybe you should entitle your new group "The Civilized Section." And you should have a monarch. And create lords as well. And we'll let ourselves be in the peasant forums.
