Denktash as advisor?

Why bother with the negotiations? They will only negotiate to legalise the partition of the island.

I don't really understand this attitude of 'no hope for unification' now that Eroglu is in.

Almost everything posted by the diehard Greek wannabees prior to the TRNC elections more or less said that there was no hope for the talks anyway (apart from those proposing solutions that have no chance whatsoever of being implemented and they contribute nothing useful to the debate). Most had 'opinions' about the 'problem' (usually just a tirade of blame and a desire for retribution) but no 'solution'. And it was said time and again that, even if the talks succeeded, they would dash it at the referendum.

Every week I read articles written by Denktash, and what we know so far is that he is adamant on partition. Forgive me for being pessimistic. I was prepared to give Eroglu a chance (wait and see what transpires), but Denktash , it seems will run the show. What is the point of having an advisor you will ignore? (not you personally ofcourse).

Gassman, come on mate, look at his team.

The Denktashes have been advocating partition since the 50's, they were removed from power (eventually) to give a solution a chance, and now they are back.

Do you really believe we have a reunification chance now???

I am just wondering if the selection is deliberate, to really piss off the GC side and have them walk away. I hope pres X plays them at their own game and sticks with it, but who could blame him if he did walk.

All he needs to do is site Denktash as being the main obstacle and everyone knows the rest.

Troubled times ahead me thinks.

With respect, I think you are an example of the phenomenon that Gasman has identified. Prior to the elections, you were screaming, "Who cares which jerk gets elected, they are all freakin' puppets of Ankara etc. etc.". Now you are telling us that it DOES matter who got elected.

Wrong, It doesn't matter who got elected, the team he has presented is one for partition and to cause maximum damage at the talks. Turkey will always have the last say, but with Denktash in there, given his involvement in the deep state. erdogenkan and other secret goings on, there is going to be big trouble.

personally it doesn't matter to me who the pseudo leader is because thats all he is and they are all puppets to the master.

When Tpap was president all we got from the TCs was shit how he was the leader of the EOKA, Akritas plan etc etc, now what are they going to say when they have just elected the TMT gods. I think even Turkey is going to have difficult issues with this one.

Looking at these names, yes, a cold chill runs down my spine because as you say this is a team for partition. There is nevertheless a logical inconsistency in what you are saying. One could very well argue - as Afrika newspaper has - that it is Ankara that calls the shots and it is totally irrelevant who gets elected. If you adopt that position, you have to be consistent. This team has been chosen by Eroğlu and Talat would most certainly not have appointed them. Either it makes a difference who was elected or it doesn't.
