Hello there people of Cyprus, i need your expert view on some concerns i've got about our trip to Paphos.

I'm staying in an aprtment with my girlfriend in Kato Paphos and am really looking forward to some sunshine and some great food in the evenings, but i've just read online that its advised to get a Hepatitis A vaccination, avoid unpastuerized milk products due to Brucellosis and avoid sandflies coz they potentially spread leishmanasis.

I must say i'm shocked and a bit gutted because i was really looking forward to trying some homegrown feta cheese, fish and salads and i'll deffo need an ice cream at some point. Now i'm not sure what to eat! I spoke to me collegue at work who's Cypriot and she's never heard of any of these illnesses to occur in Cyprus.

So are these risks for real?? Or is it more a case of scaremongering over the internet. Surely the risks of getting these things are minimal if we eat in restaurants. Should i avoid anything in particular?? Thanks for your help in advance.

Matt don't worry ,what I meant is that it is as safe here as england, except the food is fresher and not filled with chemicals. Relax and have a good holiday.

Never heard of any tourists having to have inoculations to visit Cyprus. Absolutely no problem with milk products.
Sand flies can be a bit of a pain, but never known about spreading disease.

It seems you might be mixing Cyprus up with Egypt.

Eat drink and be merry.

Come and enjoy, you will like it.

thanks for your help folks. I find it hard to believe that such a popular tourist destination would have any health concerns. Its not like we're going to be trekking to rural areas or through the rainforest.

I'm looking forward to coming to your country, Cyprus has always appealed more than anywhere else. Plus the world cup will be on while we're out there 8)

The only pests you will find in Pafos are the Time Share Touts..not sure what you can do to protect yourself from them.

Cyprus is a first-worl EU-mamber country. The concerns that you express appear to be exaggerated to me.
