Skatepark in Larnaka

Postby EdwardKnowles » Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:08 am

I'm posting this issue on the forums in order to raise awareness of the lack of a skatepark in Larnaka. I have been a victim of one of the skater's skateboard countless of times while walking down the streets of Phinnikoudes. However, i do understand that these children have no other place to skate as i used to be a skater also and understand what they are looking for.

Is it really that hard to make a skatepark? Passing by in my car all around downtown Larnaka, i can see an abundance of abandoned warehouses and fields that no one seems to care about and most probably are willing to sell. Would it be too much to ask for a skatepark built somewhere near or in town? This issue has been going on for 7 years, exactly when i decided to stop skating. Does the government not feel embarassed for promising a skatepark month after month and failing to live up to their promise? With the taxes we pay and tourists that come to the island, money is certainly not an issue as well as land for the skatepark to be built.

An example of a decent skatepark is: http://www.techramps.com/i/cms/sample_s ... _15a_s.jpg

i totally agree,
i have been bmxing for 1 year in Cyprus now and many people have promised us a skate park in larnaca
but it seems like all they seem to be doing is getting our hopes up and nothing else.

i don't understand why it is so difficult for the guy in charge of larnaca projects to build us one park near by town to get us off the streets and stop other people complaining about us riding.

i hope some one reads this and gets the message out to people.

we must be the only country with out a skate park.

Unfortunately football owns all.
I blame the Cypriot media for the continuous and relentless bombardment of football news to the masses, as if nothing else exists.
The Cypriot people's sporting consciousness is synonymous with football. They know very little else.

The Cypriot people have been robbed.
They do not enjoy a healthy variety of sports opportunities, some are blatantly denied to them.
For example..They surprisingly broadcast hours upon hours of figure skating during World Champs, Olympics and Euro Champs to thousands of Cypriots island wide, yet cannot provide a simple facility to give the youth the opportunity to partake.
Its like saying: here, enjoy watching, but you can't participate.

They deny the fair exposure of sporting achievements by Cypriot teams, other than football, such as in the case of rugby.
Cypriots don't take rugby seriously because they haven't seen it on local TV or in the newspapers.
There are more ex pat Brits at Cypriot national rugby team matches than there are Cypriots.

And we're 11 matches UNDEFEATED!!!
