Good morning from Athens,

Can you please elaborate magikthrill? I don't understand how Mr Poettering's statement may harm (or not benefit) the Greek Cypriot side...

Good evening from Mykonos,

sophisticaed... the RoC needs tot ake advantage of its EU memebrship by having a Turkey begging for EU membership. If the Turks are feeling that they will never enter the bloc before negotiations begin then how can this possibly help Cyprus? From my pov the reason why the roc joined the EU was not for economic reasons as did 90% of the other 15 nations that joined last year, but to solve their problem.

Well, fwiw, nope, it is not logical. Please read again what I wrote. I don't understand how Turkey's recognition of the Cyprus as a member of the EU can harm G.r.e.e.k. Cypriots...

The non-recognition by Turkey of a EU memeber state - absurd that may seem. But we are already in a pretty absurd situation.

It is absurd that one half of a country effectively at war with the other half has been allowed to enter the EU, for which to be fair the Denktash's intransgience deserves quite a lot of blame.

It is absurd that the GC membership, which was supposed to bring unification and peace to the island, is now fuelling the intransigence and extreme demands of Papadopolous.

The absurdity is that de facto the EU consists of 24.5 countries, with the Green Line becoming an external border, if the GC side is to enter Schengen.

The absurdity is that TC are being kept in isolation even after their vote for unification.

the green line will be as much of a border with schengen as it is now. dont forget you cant fly direct to europe from north cyprus so since turkey is not part of the scengen that makes turkey the external border...
