Transportation fro Agia Napa to Paphos?

Postby Zelda » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:56 pm

Is there any buses going to Agia Napa to Paphos?

I'm thinking about moving to Paphos, and we're going down to Cyprus to check it out. But travel from Sweden to Agia Napa ismuch cheaper than directly to Paphos.

What would it cost to take a bus/taxi from Agia Napa to Paphos and how long would it take?

If you're going to Ayia Napa (with ie. swedish charter) you'll certainly land in Larnaca. If you don't mind driving on the wrong (left) side of the road, you can easily rent a car from the airport. Any charter shuttle bus to Ayia Napa would take you approx. 1 hour in the wrong direction.

There are buses from Ayia Napa to Larnaca, but they are not frequent.

In stead of bus, i would suggest a shared taxi if you don't drive on your own. There's a company called Travel Express that would drive you for not too many euros from Larnaca to Paphos. I think you have to book in advance to be sure to have a seat. I'm not sure, but it could be that they can pick you up from the airport (but it will be after their own schedule).

Maybe we'll stay in a hotel in Larnaca instead. I guess it's the same problem from there. No frequently buses?

They are more frequent from Laranca ..., many shared taxi companies, like travel express or buses....

There was a huge shake up in public transport in Cyprus on the 5th of this month, with new compaines and extended services coming into operation. However, there have been teething problems and not all of the new services have yet started to run properly everywhere and it is difficult to get information. I have phoned the number 23821318 from which you are supposed to be able to get information about the new bus services. They told me that you can get one of the new intercity buses from Larnaca (Finicoudes terminal on the sea front promenade) to Limassol at 8 and 10 in the morning. The journey will not take much more than one hour. The final stop should also be the place from which the Paphos bus leaves. There is apparently an intercity bus from Limassol (Old Port) to Paphos at 12 noon, and if you miss that at 1600 hours. I do not know the fares, but I can tell you that the fare on the new intercity buses between Limassol and Nicosia is 4 euro, which should give you an idea. There used to be fairly regular buses from Agia Napa to Larnaca, and now that local bus services have been upgraded and improved, you should not have to wait much more than half an hour, although I am guessing. The standard single fare on all local bus services is now 1 euro.
In short, this journey should be possible if you are prepared to change twice and have a bit of a pioneering spirit, bearing in mind that the new revamped public transprot system in Cyprus is just coming into operation.

Tim, I believe it is only the new OSEA bus service that is doing the 1 euro single fare. And they do have teething problems and not all the buses run and it's damn hard to get info.

The biggest problem with bussing it will be getting back by bus if they have to be back because they are staying in Lca. Last buses are usually around 5.30 or 6pm. Even the travel agents here advise you not to rely on the 'last' one in case it doesn't run lol! (Tho I hear there is more danger of it leaving early).

I would have thought that if they want to be in Pafos - they'd be better off flying to Pafos and staying there.

One thing to take into consideration is when they expect to arrive. Pafos gets very busy from mid Aug. for a couple of weeks and it's not unusual to be unable to find anywhere reasonably priced to stay at that time (esp. on the big public holiday weekend).

I should think any money they save flying to Lca will be wiped out by the cost of taxis or car hire if that's when they end up having to use.

I know the taxi fare from Lca to Napa is around 45 - 50 euro one way. From Pafos to Lca it is more than 100 euro.
