Utopia does not exist anywhere in the world, but exclude all the political, economic, football mania and ...graffiti nuisances, Cyprus is as close to perfection as it can be. The finest weather in Europe, seasons that are characterized by their own unique persona, springtime announcing the start of summer, autumn leaves to remind us of the coming winter, some of the most hospitable and friendly people on earth, excluding GR the Plonker, a wave of the arm that tells you so much, a few unique to Cyprus phrases such as " exathiken o kosmos koumbare, " ekopsa mesa gamoto, " "me mou zalizis ta rchidia"
All very colloquial and widely used sentences. Each morning when I'm in Limassol, round about 4 to 4.30 am I take a walk to the Cafe, open 24 hours a day, have my espresso and tiropitta and wait for the anglers to arrive on the pier opposite, promising my self not to mention the amazing sunrise since all old boys fishing are sick and tired of listening to me, small talk, a few jokes and the morning is well on its way to lunchtime, but not before I discuss the merits of living in Cyprus.

Roll on the next time ....

Been on the island since Tuesday last, enjoying the magic of Cyprus, the gorgeous weather, a cloud here and there but sunny and hot mainly.

Have been in charge of my three grandchildren, not at school yet, taking them from 8am till 3pm, tiring but relaxing at the same time, their constant laughter, a little bickering and too much talking with too many questions asked on various subjects not least " when are coming here for ever pappou."

On a visit to a local kafenio came across a couple of old Charlies that did not share my views on Cyprus, on holiday they said visiting relatives, but as always highly critical of certain aspects such as the ....prices !!! Much cheaper in England they told me, its even cheaper in ...Belarus I replied where a packet of cigarettes will set you back almost a pound !

Things are not what they used to be they asserted, well you too are not what you used to be I retorted, changes have taken place the world over why not in Cyprus,

A couple of beards sitting at the next table joined in. They addressed me as ...mastre, where do you come from- pothen ise. Stroumbi the Great I replied. They knew the place and also knew of a young man, 37 years old, who passed away last Tuesday in a freak "accident", I knew the guy as his wife was a friend of my other third from her part of the woods. Most distressing it was for my lady, for me too since his " accident" was so so freaky.

Drunk my coffee and left but not before I asked the two beards as to why almost everyone in Cyprus is sporting a beard and looking as if they just arrived from the ME. Fashion they said, archidia I replied

The two Charlies continued amongst themselves having a go at the ....heat !!!

LONG LIVE CYPRUS THE GREATEST N A T I O N ON EARTH !

Took my son to Cyprus in July, his first ever visit. Having his perspective was refreshing and interesting. He liked the people more than the place, both understandable if you live in island dotted Greece and have to deal with mainlanders all day.

The sociability of Cypriots is unique. No one is indifferent to people.

Milti- I keep a log of your great lines, I am going to add this one: "Fashion they said, archidia I replied " right next to the comments about traffic wardens and the "nation of bastards".

I hope you saved his story of his arrival in the UK with sixpence in his pocket, it's a classic!

Bugger! I shouldn't have mentioned that, he will tell us again!

Now you started me off

She was not by any lengths of imagination a raving beauty, in fact with hindsight I would say she was not very attractive or to put mildly she was ugly

But boy when you are 15 and a ...virgin anything female, human that is, is acceptable.

That was my short stay when I first arrived at.......

The Cyprus sunsets are an incredible phenomena.
I've been witness to some of the most spectacular sunsets you'll ever witness anywhere on earth.
We're talking giant red ball setting over the Med lighting the sky on fire.
Vivid purple, red, blue and pink parallel stripes of colour across the horizon and many times shining through bands of clouds outlining them in glowing frames of stark contrast.
Depending on the season, you'll also witness migratory birds far in the distance on their voyage set in this majestic spectacle.
Truly awesome.

Good morning Deniz, hope you are keeping well, nice to hear from you, its been a long time.
As you may know Im in Cyprus, leaving tomorrow evening. Great time as per usual .

I have not altered my views on America, I always called it the greatest nation on earth after Cyprus !!

Honestly though ,and in spite of spiralling prices, Cyprus is still my paradise on earth.

Hope you still have your ....beard, the only beard I like

Maybe we meet in London sometime, why not give me a ring we could meet for lunch.
