I run 5 e-mail addresses on the ipad, many thousands no problem.

You have to see the ipad as an additional machine to your main computer, phone, ipod etc.

It does not pretend to be a full blown desktop machine but is fantastic for using around the house as it is so light and portable.

As long as you have a decent wi-fi connection you will love it. Ideal for 'vegging out' in the lounge or in bed. has a great battery life, only need to charge overnight after heavy use.

I download and read the Times every morning, including the ST for £8 a month saving a fortune on the printed paper.

If you have a wi-fi printer you are able to print from anywhere in the house.

There are many great apps, lots free and others for a small amount. It is easy to try an app with little or no financial outlay.

We have just bought a 3rd family ipad even though the ipad2 is out next week.

It is a fantastic machine if you take it for what it is.

My advice - get one!

not in a hurry! shops are offering discounted iPad now to get rid of the stocks of the 1st gen model.

You simply have more choice now! once these are gone you will only have the choice of a used iPad 1st gen or the new models!

e.g

- a used ipad 3g 32gb around 500+
- a new iPad 3g 32gb around 600+
- a sparking new iPad 2 3g 32gb around 750+ at very limited stock next month, hopefully, maybe more easily available in 2-3 months! IF they follow apple EU official pricing that is! if they follow last years ipad pricing this will be 1000+ !!!

for the case of the 16gb wifi only model

- a used e.g an ipad 16gb around 300+ if you find 1 selling one that low!
- a new iPad 16gb around 400+
- a sparking new iPad 2 around 550+

I have iPad mail loaded with emails dated back to 2002 + 1600 contacts + a busy calendar all synced wireless to my iPad, My iPhone and Outlook on my PC, same info on ALL my devices without doign anything! ever heard of Exchange Email?? Google it! iPad fully supports it! even gmail free email supports it!

i can load up PDFs over 100MB and browse them much faster than my laptop! and guess what, this thing is a button away to fire up! an average laptop might take 2-3 minutes to start up!

iPad will not replace your laptop! but it will do far better in places where the laptop cant simply serve you!

You sound like you are given a motorcycle to drive around the town and you are complaining that it does not have an air-condition like your truck! guess what the motorcycle will get you around the town much faster than a big heavy truck! if you understand this analogy you will understand the difference between the iPad and a laptop!

I was apple-phobic until a a few months ago.

IT managers considered Apple the devil's spawn. I admired the sleek design
but did not have the courage to take the plunge.

I first got an iphone about a year ago, progressing to the ipad a few months later. Last week I took delivery of a Macbook pro.

What a gorgeous machine! The more I explore it's capabilities the more I love it.

I would never, ever go back to a windows based PC.

It's a whole new (for me) beautiful computing world!

Dished my main windows PC over 3 years ago, a macbook pro does extremely well for my needs, of course its maxed out and connected to a an apple 24'' monitor. Wish i didn't renew all the PCs in the office 2 years ago, i would have gone all mac in the office, much more reliable and much less prone to operating system problems.

then came a mac mini connected to the TV at all times, then an iphone, then the iPads and hopefully in the future a nice iMac to keep the home office free from all the wires!

I would never, ever go back to a windows based PC either mate!

I build my own PCs and I like the flexibility. Never had any problems with Windows since XP was released. Apple products are too limiting for me. Their design is nice, but for the same amount of money you can get a far more powerful windows based PC with far greater choice in software. iPhone is now overtaken by Andriod. Android tablets will also overtake iPad in a couple of years.

The first Apple I saw was the IIe which came with separate disc drives and I liked the early MacKintosh - but could not afford one. they have always made good but expensive machines.

some our senior staff have gone over to Apple and one of my boys has a Macbook of some sort - cant remember which one - he swears by it for multi media work - composing and the like.

Wife is telling me her next Laptop will be a mac of some sort - but not an I pad.

well supporttheunderdog a laptop is a laptop, an iPad is a tablet computer, they are completely different things, they are supposed to complement each other and not replace each other :) some things are better done on a laptop but on the other hand some other things are better done on an iPad!

Sotos, I build my own PCs as well, since 1992 or even earlier, from the MS-DOS days, to win 3.11 to win 95, to win 98 to win me, to win 2000 to XP to Vista to Win 7 and so on! I probably setup over 10 PCs of my own the past years and maybe 30 more for brothers sisters and friends, i have been dealing with computers a LOT. i freaking have a BSc and an MSc on the bloody field of computing!

PCs don't give you flexibility they give you headaches! by the time you want to upgrade your PC, a new motherboard comes along that does not support your processor, with new type of ram, with new type of cards with higher demand for a psu and its keeps going on! every time you really need to upgrade you simply buy all things from scratch!

in the PC world there are many misconceptions, people think that if they buy a laptop with a faster processor it will be faster, they don't understand that if they simply replace the hard disk with and ssd it will fly! on the mac side when you buy something you know that its build the best way possible and its the best thing you could buy!

With Macs its a matter of quality and performance! you buy a laptop for double the money, but it performs 3 times faster, its battery lasts 3 times longer and the whole bloody thing will last you 3 times longer than as a windows laptop. In the long run it will cost you less! you have to live it to understand it!

Btw yes android will grab more market share in both mobile and tablets at some point since different companies will build both high end and cheap products. They won't ever reach the quality and overall user experience of apple products thought. Apple is not into this for grabbing the biggest market share! They are into Builting the best products out there! you are not going o see apple built a 100 euro iPhone or a 400 euro laptop!
