Foreign Affairs Committee calls on Ankara

The withdrawal of Turkish troops from Cyprus, claiming a resolution adopted today, the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament on the 2010 Progress Report on Turkey.

With the resolution of the Foreign Affairs Committee calls on Ankara to immediately withdraw its military forces from Cyprus, to facilitate the creation of an appropriate climate in which negotiations are ongoing under the auspices of the UN.

The resolution refers to Resolution 550 of the Security Council of the United Nations, as well as in Famagusta, but the issue of settlers
The draft resolution, MEPs have tabled 315 amendments.

Among them, an amendment that ultimately did not pass, who supported the parliamentary groups of Socialists, Liberals and Greens, which was attempted to bring the issue of direct trade by reference to fully implement the European Council decision of April 26, 2004 in relation to the so-called isolation of Turkish Cypriots. The resolution will be referred for final approval at the plenary of the European Parliament in March.

I think it is about time we start thinking about our strategic interests of what is going on inside Turkey!
