In a few weeks we'll be traveling to Cyprus for the first time. We're flying from Italy and spending our time in Cyprus on the Greek side. From there we would like to take a ferry (high speed) to the mainland Turkish coast.
A few questions:
1) is it a problem crossing into North Cyprus with luggage?
2) what is the best place to get a ferry to in North Cyprus to mainland Turkey?
3) does anyone know of an online site that lists ferry schedules?
Thanks- can't wait to visit Cyprus! |

Hi, I can only answer question 1.
Its no problem to cross the border.
But I would like to point out something else. In case you are holding a passport of a non-EU country and you enter Cyprus via the south and leave via the north you might get a problem next time you wish to enter the country from the south as you are missing the stamp from last times departure in your passport then. |

Hi City
They have not stamped Passports for some time now, at least on a regular basis, but I agree if they discover you have entered or departed via an 'illegal' port, they will give you a hard time.

Hi Lana, who has not stamped? The Roc?
I'm not aware of this as they stopped years ago to stamp my (german) passport.
Thanks for the update. |

Hi
Yes, the ROC now no longer stamps passports, at least for EU Nationals, as far as I know.

Ah, yes, that was clear.
Thats why I wrote in my reply "in case you are holding a non-EU passport". |

My passport was not stamped last year at Pafos airport. IN fact I can't remember I had my passport stamped travelling from one EU country to another.
When you cross into the north they stamp a slip of paper not your passport. |

Thats what it is. If you are holding an EU passport you won't get any stamps travelling to other EU countries. But with a NON EU passport its different and thats what I meant.
Travelling on a NON EU passport you probably get a stamp on arrival in the south. When departing via the north your passport will probably be stamped there.
So there might be a problem NEXT time you wish to enter the south as you are missing last times departure stamp. Thats all I was trying to say and all depends on what passport you are holding. |
