But which language of Cyprus would you wish? Greek only - or the other official language of Cyprus, just Turkish?

The one common denominator of Forum members is that they can read/write in English. If this Forum was in Greek (or Turkish) only it would lose most members and be a very different place. For example, if it were Turkish only the debate on CYProb would be very different and perhaps one sided (as it would also, if the site was Greek only). By using English we can have 'Greek' and 'Turkish', viewpoints as well as those of other Nationals who perhaps have a more neutral stance.

Interestingly, until 20 years ago, English was also an offical language in Cyprus. I was having dinner with a Diplomat (Head of Mssion) last night and he was saying that English has now replaced French as the language of diplomocy. Rightly or wrongly, if you want to broadcast anything to the widest possible audience, you must use English.

Hi Birkibrisli

Yes you sent it to me as a PM: I have copied and pased it below:

Lana, wouldn't it be so nice if we could all speak all 3 languages equally well. Then we could choose which language to use depending on our mood,I suppose. It is a dream of mine to learn Greek in Cyprus one day when I dare to return. If all TCs spoke Greek and all GCs spoke Turkish we would not be where we are now in cyprus, don't you agree?I read this somewhere only last night:"When they were preparing the hemlock,
Socrates was learning a new song on his flute. When they asked him what was the point of learning at that late hour he said 'I can now say I learned how to play that song before I died'.It almost brought tears to my eyes
