I agree with you...

I built my own in the end... Most of the components were much cheaper in the UK - even buying specialised cable by the drum and having it shipped over was cheaper than buying from local shops in Limassol...

GR, what I want is help with the design of the space. I am not going to do anything too fancy or too expensive, but the equipment is not going to be very cheap either and I want to take advantage of its full potential. If the room and the setup is not right then the result will not be good no matter how good the equipment.

Thanks cyprusgrump. When did you build your own? Did you try to find any specialists in Cyprus and couldn't find any? I am following a couple of forums on the subject and I learned a few things, but there is so much info it is not possible to learn everything! This is why I would be willing to hire a real pro. What I don't want is to make some commitment with somebody who is not much more than an AV equipment reseller. Obviously they will have more experience than me and that could be helpful, but I always like to buy the best equipment my budget can allow and I don't want to limit myself to the few brands that some shop imports! From what shops did you order your equipment? Do they ship to Cyprus or you had to arrange the shipping yourself?

Thanks but I am in Limassol. Are there any Cyprus specific tips that any of you can offer? That could be really helpful! For the more general info I read major USA and UK websites and forums. But some of the things that they say there do not apply in Cyprus.

I dont knowmwhat u mean by tips not been applicable here. Are u talking about a hc room or you want to build it in your living? What is the budget u want to spend? When we say hc we always mean projector and not tv

It is not going to be a 100% dedicated HC room, but close. It will have a TV plus a 130" electric tab tensioned projector screen that will drop in-front of the TV. Sound will be 7.1. Budget is about 10.000 - 15.000 euro for the equipment. What is not applicable here is mostly related with the construction of their homes and HC rooms which are made of wood as opposed to ours which are made from brick and concrete.

Thats why you have gipsosanida my friend ) better than wood as a combination with brick and u can install any sound proofing material u want between them
