Current situation in Larnaca

Postby gaby_m » Thu Jul 14, 2011 7:13 pm

I'm interested in the current situation in Larnaca, especially as regards electricity and water supply in this town. I'll arrive there tomorrow and I want to know what is all about.

Hi Gabby, welcome to CF....

.... much depends where you will be staying... visitors staying in hotels in tourist areas have been assured of uninterrupted supplies of water and electricity.

If staying elsewhere reports are that water supply is as normal, but electricity is subject to 2.5 hour cut-offs per 24 hours.

The airport at Larnaca is operating normally.

no issues with water. Electricity cuts about 2 hours each day unless you live in a hotel in a tourist area and in that case there are no electricity cuts.

File Sotos... this is the site of the CTO ... http://www.visitcyprus.com/wps/portal

You'd think it would post some news and help for visitors on the current situation.... nothing there... absolutely bugger all there to reassure visitors.

We'll be staying in a hotel based in Larnaca, situated near the town center as well as the Palm Tree Promenade and the Marina. Do you think are there any electricity problems?

You'll have no probs, you're in the heart of the Larnaca tourist area.

Take a walk to the far western end of the Promenade, past the Fort and after about 1000 yards you'll come across loads of CY restaurants, very popular with the locals. Good CY food and pretty reasonably priced. The restaurant there called Militzis is highly regarded.

There are loads of bars along the Promenade, but do be aware there's a great variety in the prices, so do look at price lists.

Changing money? Best to avoid the rip-off banks with their commissions. There's a large souvenir shop/mini market at the Fort end of the Promenade. They'll be a sign displaying their rates outside. We always change money there.

... and have a look at the Church of St Lazarus, in a square near the Fort, very picturesque.
