Military Service

Postby Mazman » Sun Sep 04, 2011 3:36 pm

Hello

I am a 28 yo male born and raised in the UK to Cypriot parents.

I've been wanting to live in Cyprus for a while now but the things stopping me is are the jobs and the military service.

I've heard so many different views about how long I would have to spend in the army, from 12 months down to 3 months.

Could someone tell me how long I would I would have to do the army for if I wanted to stay in Cyprus, also how long would I have to be in Cyprus before they call me up?

Thanks

3 months. How long until they call you is not something that can be said with any accuracy. They might call you after some months or after some years ... but you can always go to them yourself if you want to get over with this as soon as possible. Entry dates are in January and July. Have a look at this:

The army service is a minor problem, finding a job is a lot more difficult!

Thanks for the information

Anyone else here done service at around this age? Any experiences?

I did go Greek school over here but my greek but it's by no means perfect especially writing. Will this be a problem if I do go to the army?

I've always said that if I had to do the service then yes I would do it, even though I'm not very fit :) but if it means I can stay in Cyprus then it will be worth it.

Yep, getting a job looks like a whole challenge in itself. I'm sure with the help of my cousins I'll find something.

Perfect Greek is not needed for the army but it might be a factor for a job. If your Greek is not good enough this could limit your options.

Unless you apply for citizenship it is unlikely you will be called up anyway.
