Egypt will honor EEZ deal with Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Egypt will honor EEZ deal with Cyprus

Postby Nikitas » Wed Oct 12, 2011 6:38 pm

Egypt will honor its EEZ deal with Cyprus, Egyptian FM Mohammed Camal Amr, said today after a meeting with visiting Greek FM.

EEZ demarcation is based on the Law of the Sea but the details are dependent on bilateral agreements with states. So far Cyprus has concluded agreements with all states that count, for the southern and eastern EEZ, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt.

The Egyptian FM also said that Egypt is keen to conclude a deal for the transport of gas to the EU via Cyprus and Greece.

Zero relevance to its neighbors will be the title of the new policy of you know who.

But Erdogan went to Egypt to persuade them to export natural gas to Europe via the Nabucco pipeline project. What went wrong?

Not even Azerbaijan bothered to attend a Nabucco ceremony in Turkey recently so how can the idiot fool Egypt?

Try the fact that Russia said it was dead about a year ago.

You mean the military Junta will honor its EEZ deal with Cyprus. Egypt will hold in a few short weeks elections and those that are set to gain many seats are the Muslim brotherhood - a party that wishes to have very close relations with Ankara. This is why Cyprus must act quickly or we will have the same problems that we now have with Lebanon. It is being stated that the RoC will soon start offshore auctions on two blocks - that is simply not enough. Blocks 10 and 11 should be placed up for auction as those are the blocks that neighbor Egypt's EEZ. The French are said to be interested and are willing to safeguard their platforms so bring them in. The Turks claim parts of blocks 1 and 4-7:

It would be best if one of these blocks that are being claimed by Ankara are also placed up for auction and preferably given to an American company so that Ankara would think twice in interfering in our waters. Forget about the other "safe" blocks. Auctions should involve strategic selection and I hope comrade Christofias understands what is at stake now.

Things falling into place...

Greece and Egypt to jointly delineate maritime zones

Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos and his Egyptian counterpart Nabil Fahmy Thursday agreed to create a bilateral committee aimed at delineating the two countries’ maritime zones despite possible objections by “third countries” and pointed to the prospect of a three-way cooperation with Cyprus.

Speaking after talks with Venizelos in Cairo, Fahmy stressed that “each country has its own interests and it does not concern us if third countries are bothered by this,” apparently referring to Turkey, which has expressed its objections to the prospects of Greece unilaterally declaring an exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Venizelos was slightly more diplomatic in tone, saying the initiative would be undertaken for the benefit of both Greece and Egypt and “with no hostile disposition toward any other country.”

Experts from Greece, Egypt and Cyprus are to meet soon to seek common criteria for a three-way initiative, sources said.

Yes, I saw that too. Now imagine: Egypt joining the energy (and defence) coalition of Israel, Cyprus and Greece?

If am not wrong Cyprus and Egypt have already delineated their EEZs so there is nothing more for Cyprus to do.
