Internet speeds

Postby Crivens » Sun Oct 16, 2011 1:52 pm

My apartment in Limassol is currently getting 8mbs download speed. However we plan on renting a place in secret valley. Does anyone know what speed you can expect there? And is it across the board for the place or can you expect massively random speeds throughout the area?

Cheers

Call the internet companies up and ask the internet speeds at the address you are planning to rent.

Fair enough it was what I was going to do anyway. I just wanted a rough idea before properly looking in the area

If it helps anyone I did move there in the end. I have Cytanet at 32mbps. It pretty much always gives me that speed in tests so good stuff. Apparently one of the bigwigs at Cyta lives up here. Tops!

Out of interest does anyone know when Cyta are going to increase the upload speeds? It's still years out of date on that one, especially for the higher speed products.

Pity you couldn't get Cablenet, 30 down/3 up, telephone and loads of TV channels for €52.34 a month.

Yeah true. 32 down is perfectly acceptable though. Plus I don't know about any other ISPs at the minute, but I haven't noticed any obvious throttling, and I use the Web a *lot*. The same thing happened when I used Cytanet back in Limassol (2006-2007) but when I switched to Primetel in 2008 I suspected throttling as it was nowhere near as reliable for hitting the stated top download speed.
