Should Cyprus change its National Anthem?

Postby Maxx » Sat Nov 05, 2011 4:35 am

Time for another poll. :D

This has probably been discussed before, but now its time to evaluate this topic once more, with a poll.

So should Cyprus change its National Anthem?

Yes or No.

We probably have our own glories and legends to celebrate, so why not have something entirely indigenous to Cyprus?

If you vote YES, then please provide an example of what you might think might be a more suitable alternative. :)

This is mine:

I’ll take an uphill road
I’ll take the paths
To find the stairs
That lead to freedom

I'll leave brothers, sisters
My mother, my father
In the valleys beyond
And the mountainsides

Searching for freedom
I'll have as company
The white snow
Mountains and torrents

Even if it's winter now
The summer will come
Bringing Freedom
To cities and villages

I’ll take an uphill road
I’ll take the paths
To find the stairs
That lead to freedom

I'll climb the stairs
I'll enter a palace
I know it will be an illusion
I know it won't be real

I'll wonder in the palace
Until I find the throne
Only a queen
Sitting on it

Beautiful daughter, I will say,
Open your wings
And take me in your embrace
That's all I ask…’

Do you have the lyrics for that one?

I can't say I know it, but it is probably better if you make a more suitable recommendation that won't offend any Greek or Turkish Ottoman remnants.

This is much more appropriate, but we may need to tweak the words a bit.

Here comes the sun.

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

Of course it has, by you no less using another alias.

Does the british brigade think they can change these Cypriots:

Never in your wildest dreams. If the Republic of Cyprus was dissolved by say accepting the Annan plan then yes, i could see a new national anthem. But as the british brigade knows, the overwhelming majority rejected such a scheme because there limits to what the citizens on this island will accept. We are not going to change who we are or forgo our rights. Live with it. This isnt south east turkey and i am no mountain turk. filthy bitzes.

What has all of that got to do with us having our own National Anthem?

bill cobbett, Cap and Get Real!, do not forget to post your suitable alternative, like CBBB has.

Later, we will have another poll and vote on the best one. :D

The problem is your seeing the Republic of Cyprus as some sort of banana republic where the british brigade think they can change our flag, anthem, language, religion. You wouldn't ask these things of any other country yet you think you can do that here. If you're looking for a place similar to London then just go back to London and while you're there ask them if they would like to have their own national anthem.
