These are complex times... I want to ask a question to everyone about something that lies at the heart of my psychosis...

We all know that identity politics run deep in Cyprus...

I would like those posting to meditate on the difference between "racism", "xenophobia" and "banter" which I loosely define as follows:

"racism" is anything that contributes to the maintenance of "White supremacy".

"xenophobia" is anything that contributes to hate for foreigners.

"banter" is anything that marks oneself off from others in a manner that allows for others to respond in a similar manner all in good humour.

one could add "righteousness" to this which is anything said in self-defence...

Are you saying that (apart from the odd 'sell out' exception) only white people can be racist?

No, I maintain my original definition... as to the wikiquote "racial groups" are the invention of "Whites"... but some groups have evolved by input from others... it is a question of ownership of identity... for example when a "Black" person accuses a Cypriot of being "White" are they acting to maintain "White supremacy" by helping to cement the existence of the British bases or are they responding to said Cypriots own sell-out position? Similarly when a Cypriot says that a person is "Black" are they acting to continue the homogenisation of people of African descent that was started by the slave owners or are they showing solidarity with said person's rightful ownership of identity?

a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

Racism can be shown by any race to any other - not just black and white.

By your own words you show yourself to be racist...
