well in the end I didn't find something suitable, but the cafe nearby had a connection which I was able to use. Sometimes you can find free lines as well

Though internet will not really be the primary concern of my trip, it would really be nice to still get connected whenever I go, or better yet plug the sim card on my mobile just so we could be assisted with the maps and other data hungry applications.

For USB kit with no contract: http://www.mtn.com.cy/index.cfm/id/395/ ... payasyougo For your mobile you can get PayAsYouGo http://www.mtn.com.cy/index.cfm/id/39/l ... payasyougo and then add the PayAsYouSurf service for data: http://www.mtn.com.cy/index.cfm/id/330/lang/english If your mobile is new smartphone with tethering feature then you can use your mobile as basically a WiFi access point that your other WiFi devices (e.g. laptop) can connect to. With older mobiles maybe you could connect them to your laptop with bluetouth or some wire.

If you buy an mtn sim card (to use with a dongle or ad-hoc with a suitable unlocked phone) you can then put prepay credit on and can choose from a selection of data bundles by sending a text to a specified number. havn't got the details to hand but they are explained in english in a manual that comes with the sim card, basically you text something along the lines of "3g 1 week" to a number they specify and it charges you a fixed price of e.g. 5 euros for 50mb of data that can be used over a week period.

WARNING you dont get a huge amount of data allowance with these packages so you will be limited to checking your emails and browsing (no videos or internet radio!) but this should do for a short trip.

I dont know if there are similar packages with other suppliers as I have never used them but mtn seems to be quite competetive. Good luck!
