Is it that bad? What about the greek side is that ok?

Hello Theodosia. Are you well? :D

(All of Cyprus is Greek but unfortunately nearly half is illegally occupied by Turkish troops (about 40,000) and their relatives. So like humanist said, best stay away from the Turkish occupied areas.)

It sounds like you like a mixture of things so I would recommend the Polis area. From there, you will find good bays for swimming and snorkeling (e.g. Pomos Bay). Nice bars for smoothies and freshly squeezed orange juice (the sweeetest on the island). There is also a little harbour (Latchi) with good fish restuarants and from here you can hire boats or go on organised trips around the most amazing coastline called the Akamas. The water is the best on the island. Clear and crisp. :) You can also go on a number of treks from around here, which are best tackled in the cooler months.

You have such a treat in store if you have never visited. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! :D

Will they (the turks troops) ever leave? Though the tc were different from the turks? sorry for my ignorance. Know there was a war around 1974, though i get it had been brewing for a while.

Yes, the invasion by Turkey had been brewing for a while. The Turks have planted bombs on the island since the 1950s (might have been why your poor father felt the need to leave). Then they tried to destroy our democratic process and then Turkey napalmed and bombed Greek-inhabited villages, back in 1964. Unfortunately, in 1974 they succeeded in taking half the island (we have to get it back for the 200,000 Greek Cypriots which the Turks, at gunpoint, forcefully removed from their homes of hundreds of years). If you would like to know more about the history and the present day politics of how the Republic of Cyprus is trying to gain support to remove the invading Turks, then read some of the threads in "Cyprus Problem" section of this forum. Prepare yourself for some bad language and threatening voices though. :D

Thank you Greek Island girl for explaining the "Cyprus problems" to me. I will read it, though i'm sure i will feel angry and sad at the same time. I do know that some people are still missing from the 1974 war, how heartbreaking for all those loved ones not really knowing what happened to their families.

Theodosia

Don't believe anything GIG tells you.

Do your own research on the internet. That is the only way to find out the truth and the GCs can't block it.

A good book to read is The Genocide Files by Harry Scot Gibbons. A real eye opener about your GC friends like GIG.

Theodosia, I hope you are having a lovely weekend. :D

[I hope this propagandist (above) doesn't derail your super thread with his/her need to throw these discredited Turkish propagandist pamphlets in your direction. Do they think you are so gullible? Theodosia, just look at the UN resolutions against Turkey. But most of all, I know you are capable of reaching a sensible level of understanding about the problem on your own and determining for yourself that there are many falsehoods presented by Turkey in order to try and justify this most heinous and barbaric of crimes in invading a tiny country whose people have never invaded anybody else's territory.]

good morning bubble, I need to do a lot of reading and research to even begin to understand what happened.
What very little I know is what I saw on the news around that time, but I was only about 14.
But this thread is only about " best part of the Ireland to visit"
I have to say though that I can really understand the anger of the greek people.. The reason why I say this is that "the English" took part of northern Ireland and call it their own. It feels the same kind of bullying to me that if you can't fight back some other country will just take your land and call it their own.
But I won't be ignorant until i read more then my words are about feelings and we are all entitled to that. Hope you are having a good sunday :)

You mean this Harry Scott Gibbons…

http://www.trncinfo.com/tanitma/en/inde ... newsid=215

…who was parlaying with the puppet government of the illegal occupied territory?

Isn’t that like reading Mussolini's book… “Why my friend Adolf is a good guy!”

Harry's speech ends with... "How proud it is to be a Turk!"

I don't consider myself to be a liar just because my lips are moving, when they are moving it is because i speak the truth though i can't say it makes me to popular. but what i can say is this..i like myself because of who iam. I do find it insulting that you say this to me, so far i have not been rude to you. Perhaps you could have the same respect for me. in regards to your comment above i feel you owe me an apology. :(
