Please forgive me if this is a recurring question - I did try to find the answer, but this forum is so active it will take me ages to trawl through all the wealth of information here. (Mark of a good forum!)
Question is this:- I have a book here by Anne Hall, 'Buying a home in Cyprus'. It has the following advice:-
"Cypriot law states that property owned by foreigners who aren't resident in Cyprus can be let only long-term to resident Cypriots or EU nationals. In other words, short term holiday lets are illegal."
Can anyone please confirm or deny this is the case, as I have had someone swearing blind that it is not true. (Someone who wants to sell me a house, naturally.)
Thank you, good people. |

| The only way to get a 100% correct answer is if you ask a lawyer. However I know that many foreigners buy property for short term holiday lets so I guess that if such law exists it is not enforced. |

It is true but ignored by the thousands of Brits that buy property here and rent it out.
The holiday industry would collapse if the law was enforced. |

Also, of course, it would have to be registered with the Cyprus Tourist Organisation, but no one does that either. I think the minimum letting period for a non-Resident is 30 days.
The Government cannot discriminate against (EU national) residents, in doing this.
It is one of the many ignored laws in Cyprus.
