Why Windows 8 = Epic Fail

Postby Demonax » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:16 pm

Worrying start for Microsoft Windows 8...

PC users are asking many questions about Windows 8 surrounding one general theme: Why did Microsoft put their failed phone OS on their 23" monitor?...

A slow start to Windows 8 is a deathblow to the Redmond tech giant. This was Microsoft's last chance to make big inroads into the mobile market before Apple and Google totally blow through the mass adoption Tornado getting to the Early Majority and Late Majority phases of the product life cycle. Redmond was all in on Windows 8. The result: Epic fail.

I love windows 8. Has some really nice features. Most people bashing it have not even tried it.

Okay, grumpy. Just for some balance. Here is a review of Windows 8 from PCMag:

Windows 8 Is a Desktop Disaster

I sat staring at the screen, my emotions lodged somewhere between dumbfounded and despondent. From what I was seeing, I knew I'd made a horrific mistake, and restitution must be made immediately. I'd been told time and time again there was no going back; what's done is done, you have to accept it, there's no living in the past. But a violation this total demanded from me only one response.

I had to uninstall Windows 8, and I had to do it immediately...

So haphazard, so clunky, so confusing was everything, one could only conclude that all the company cared about was the touch market, and it was doing everything it could to discourage Desktop (and desktop) use once and for all...

The latest versions of Mac OS X are far more usable and appealing than Windows 8...

There's more. This is from John Dvorak, who is usually a pro-Microsoft pundit.

Windows 8 looks to me to be an unmitigated disaster that could decidedly hurt the company and its future.

It’s not that the product out-and-out stinks. It is refreshingly slick-looking and modern, albeit without any charm whatsoever.

The real problem is that it is both unusable and annoying. It makes your teeth itch as you keep asking, “Why are they doing this!?”

First of all, the system-software product is mostly divorced from all the thought and trends developed by Windows over the years, as if to say that they were wrong the whole time, so let’s try something altogether new.

No business will tolerate this software, let me assure you. As a productivity tool, it is unusable...
