Bicommunal Culture Center

Postby yrtrnc » Sat Oct 22, 2005 12:43 pm

We are currently working on setting up a bicommunal cultural center on the North Part of the island. We plan to be a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the arts and culture on the island of Cyprus.
Any good natured offer or feedback would be appreciated.

Ok, since you asked for feedback here it is:

If you want to have anything bi-communal then you should stop using words like "TRNC" and "North part" (with capital "N"). The pseudo state of "TRNC" is created based on the ethnic cleansing performed against the majority of the population and its aim is the separation and the division of Cypriots and there is nothing bi-communal about it.

Other than that your idea seems good if the aim is truly the promotion of arts and culture and it does not promote in any way the pseudo state.

Firstly I apoligize if you are offended by anything i have written. Secondly, in your opinion what would be a more appropriate way of expressing the identity of the TC occupied area if Cyprus is known as the GC occupied area?

Thanks

In Cyprus there is one state - RoC, part of which is illegally occupied by the Turkish army. There is just one illegally occupied area, and thats northern Cyprus.

TCs are part of the TC community of RoC. If you want to refer to the occupied part of Cyprus but you don't want to use the word "occupied", then you can say "northern part of Cyprus", which simply defines geographical location. I believe that should be a good compromise for those that want the two communities to interact without touching the core of the conflict.

Well much obliged for your thoughts and comments, take care.

Our mission is to celebrate the creative spirit and touch each & every life on the island with the beauty and inspiration only the arts can provide.

Once again, any good natured offer or feedback would be appreciated.

Hello yrtrnc! How is your organization going to promote the arts and culture? Can you give us some more info? Do you have a website?

We are currently looking to find sponsors, funding is one of the big issues for this kind of project.

We are also looking for cooperation from similar organizations from the south side, so any peeps out there interested please msg me.

A building has been arranged on the buffer zone as our operations headquarters.

Our website will soon be set-up, fingers crossed and we will be able to reach a wider audience. I will post more info on this topic soon.

Thank you

yrtrnc, so your cultural center is not in the occupied areas but in the buffer zone?

Thats is better actually, but would you mind telling us from where you got the license to use that building in the buffer zone?

Would you promote the Cypriot culture that is common for both TCs and GCs? What are your plans? Or would your plans depend on who the sponsor(s) will be?
