How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How easy it is to shift 141000 tons of water? Easy, you put it in a tanker, at economical speed of 14 knots it is in Cyprus in 5 hours. Or a desal plant that produces 40 000 tons daily, can make it appear in 3 1/2 days. But then you would not have the "umbilical cord" symbolism. Also the owners of the means to make the water happen would not by necessity have to be Turks, they could be TCs and that is a no no.

RW it is not 25 years since its inception. The idea is older, much older, I know first hand because one of my close relatives was in a high position in the government in the 1970s and GC officials were discussing back then the supply of water by Turkey. It is on that foundation that the pipe is being built and with the RoC as the intended client. On old and bypassed data, as is much of the rest of Turkish policy and mindset in general.

this is the problem isnt it, you do not want the pipe because it is terggish. well i have heard of a lot of racism in my life but never against pipes.

we want fresh water for drinking and agriculture. your idea of usin desalination plant is like buying a flat in nicosia and growing tomatoes in it. sure it can be done, so why do people not do it.

The dream of the pipe was to provide water to the region in general so long ago. For the same reason today, it was rejected then, the cost in relation to benefit. While "the south" has water "the north" does not in Cyprus. Management seems to be the issue. Turkey failed at this responsibility, the ''Cypriot Turks" remain hopeful, though. While many efforts have been made by the EU and the Republic of Cyprus to bring this vital element, water, to the lives of Cypriots, it failed in the occupied territories because the opportunities were rejected. The water in this scheme, on the other hand, is "Free", but as yet is 'undeliverable'.

Lordo, i think your last post has gone too far, like vp's assertion that a desal plant brings spies. I suggest you watch to much Hollywood fantasy. How "making" water is like a flat in the city i understand, but your denial that tomatoes do grow inside this system, that it is done, is beyond me. In any case, all "your" eggs are in one basket, without it the chickens die of thirst, there won't be water for the tomatoes either. The regime of course will remain as its always been, delusional, as though they have no place in the world, that the world is against them, a basket case. They'll get more, dare i say it, "Jews" to desalinate the water for their Hotels, the "pure" water is coming for "Turks". You make me laugh, bitter tears. Sadly funny, if only this logic was said in jest, a Cypriot sitcom, but i fear that they are the words of an apologist, not a Cypriot, someone desperate to keep what "belongs" to "them", as though things should stay "the same" forever, willing, in effect, to tear the baby in two, for "their" part, i ask, who puts Cyprus highest?

...my friend, there is water to drink, Cypriot water is sweet, just as sweet or sweeter than the water you are waiting for.

Turks are "others", as dinstinct from "us", letting a truly vital resource be controlled by others is the foolish part, no matter who those others are. It has nothing to do with racism, and a lot to do with survival both in the material and in the abstract, cultural sense.

You, Lordo, sold your ass to them a long time ago. You would not understand these basics. You accept the change of place names, the imposition of family names, the prohibition of Cypriot Turkish dialect in broadcasts. You are in such a hurry to be rid of your Cypriotness. Are you embarassed?

That analogy just does not work.

yes but posession is 90 percent of ownership. every day that passes by consolidates division a little more. we may have already gone past point of no return. history will be the judge and stop laughing like a hyena ed.

Newsflash from Zizziro News...

Today, the water storage in the dams of the Free Areas of the Republic passed last year's same day figure.

Storage today up to 53% cf 51% on the same day last year.

Meanwhile, hot news on "kktc su temin projesi" or Flop of the Century - a boat has moved in to the project area south of Anamur... oh, scrap that, it's a fishing-boat.

Bill,

Their obsession with symbolism, like the inauguration on July 20 is so great, I would not put it past them to pump seawater to prove a point.

Yes, think we can all see that there will be some kind of stunt to cover up failure.
