How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

...the Karpas is the richest farmland in Cyprus. The "Turks" last year blamed their flooding on the "Greeks", don't you remember? The difference you suggest Nikitas, i'm not sure is true. What is clear is the stark contrast on how water is managed; how the lives of Cypriots are being hijacked in its northern part, because everything is political, everything must be "Turkish", only Ankara counts for this elite, whether Cypriots can or cannot provide, even water, for themselves is not the question, for "them".

RW

Water is simply NOT managed in the trunc. They indulged in an orgy of buidling cheapo villas for sale to the lowes bidder and they never figured the water habits of the incomers. They have drip irrigation in some fields, but most is still watered via the old ways of "pump and dump". They refused the desal plants and no provision is made for tankers that could have been working for years to cover the residential needs, leaving the indigenous water for agriculture.

The idea that expensive imported water can be used for marginal agriculture is peculiar.

In the meantime technology is advancing, any of you that looked up the Dutyion invention will know what I mean. The pipeline is in danger of ranking next to the 1150 room palace (complete with stables !!!!) as a Pharaonic monument of how not to do it.

i looked it up. it had no price r how long it would last. all i could find is ..(it's not cheap, at present)..

yet more ways of lining the western corporations coffers.

the pipeline is the best methods as plastic is long lasting.

you problem is you want no ties with the terggs. deal with it.

Lining coffers is what this pipe scheme is doing big time. Germans built the connectors, British the floats, various others including Malaysians the pipe sections, the layer ship is foreign too. As for Cypriots, they are involved as laborers and local works managers at best.

this is a one off, once built it will last for decades. will require minimal maintenance. the whole world is going plastic because of minimal maintenance.

The sea eats away at everything it touches, maintenanace is a fight to delay the inevitable. Plastics are no exemption, ask people who own plastic (ABS) and fiberglass boats. The connectors and anchors are metal. They will get their coat of barnacles like everything else does in the sea. Internally there will be the usual salt deposits that occur in all water pipes.

This is a quote from a marine engineering journal on deep sea fouling " Normally, we would expect not much biofouling in the middle of the ocean, on the continental slope (deep sea); however, recent results have been showing that there is great growth of marine fouling attaching to the platforms and risers in the deep sea." And goes on the explain how fouling changes the weight, buoyancy of structures and throws off skew engineering calculations.

In Greek we say new barbers learn on Kassidi's head.

because they change them with new ones every year :!: Go ask them and see!
All plastics crack from the sun+water. Even UV stabilized plastics, the max they can do is 3 years.
