UK Driving License

Postby Kyriacosn » Sat Mar 23, 2013 4:34 am

Hello,
I'm a British/Cypriot by decent. (My father was born and raised in UK).Before a while I applied for a British Passport and I'm a British Passport holder. Im studying in UK since Feb 2012. I would like to apply for a Driving License (ID) as-well but I don't really know how things work. A friend told me I cant apply right now cause Im living in the University Hall.
Next year I'll rent a house, If I do so, can I ?
Thank you, and Im really sorry for my poor english, Im doing my best

There are conditions attached to getting a new provisional (learner) one...

You have to be resident in the UK.

You'll be asked for addresses for the past three years in GB.

You'll also need a GB National Insurance number.

BUT if you're an EU citizen and already have a full license, from say CY, you can exchange it for a GB one providing you are Permanently Resident in GB... (Halls as you know don't count)

If you already have a Cypriot license, you don't need a UK one.
Why do you want a UK license? Are you planning on staying in the UK. Even then you can keep your Cypriot licence if you have it.

Hello,
Thanks for your info.
Im a full Cypriot License holder. I need the UK Driving License as British ID, cause carrying my Passport is not the best idea.
So as a student Im not able to exchange my Cypriot one isn't it?

Providing your Cyprus ID card is one of the newer ones, that should be sufficient ID in the UK.
