...a bridge to Lebanon

Postby repulsewarrior » Sat May 11, 2013 5:22 pm

A U.S. based company presented a project to connect Cyprus to Lebanon with a 150km highway/bridge from Dbayeh to Limassol. Drivers can reach Cyprus from Lebanon within 80 minutes. Passengers between the two countries will pay a fee to use the bridge between the two countries and will be a great opportunity to promote tourism and bilateral economic ties.

...has anyone heard of this venture before?

Is that in preparation of Cyprus abandoning the EU and joining the OIC?

This is just going to give our disgusting belligerent Turkish neighbours ideas.

As a cynic, I'll wager that's the thinking behind it.

Possible nonsense given that the longest over water bridge is the Hangzhou Bay Bridge at 32 Km.

I mean how are they going to support it over the deep water of the open sea, sink pillars or float it on pontoons?

...Cyprus the gateway in beteen (someday in the future if/when Turkey becomes a member) EU/OIC.

actually i was thinking Kyrenia to the south of Turkey(its only 40 miles and one can drive to Lebanon once youre in Turkey),from what GIG was saying, what a great idea(not!!)...they could even import their water with water trucks now...

@RW they can use ships to transport goods..There are future plans for airplane taxis, convenient low flying planes where a small plane could take off from Cyprus and be in TelAviv, in 30 minutes..or ferrys, if there's a need..why build a bridge?

Why the sudden interest in Lebanon? I don't care where Turkey builds a bridge to - it can build one to Ulan Bator for all I care - just so long as it doesn't get any "bright" ideas to build one to Cyprus and have its headscarf-wearing, women-bashing population crossing over with their anachronistic habits.

I would propose kindly to search about Lebanon and have a visit there and spend some days, you will realise that the Lebanese people are stages higher in regards to politeness education, respect, love and share... Cypriots are villagers uneducated caring only for their pockets and considering all the neighbours arabs!! and what they only care is money. They are thinking that are "Europeans" for God sake..and neighbours are second category of humans.
Ah, and are not all women with head-scarfing (Muslims).. Lebanon Christian community is larger 4 times than Cypriots. Phoenicians landed in Lebanon, the 2nd larger language of communication is French which the 99% of people are using.

I loved the idea of the bridge connecting the two countries and I wish the two nations agree for.
Am Cypriot and love Lebanon as I love Cyprus because I was lucky enough to visit this country i was impressed from its beauty and i taste the hospitality and the love of the lebanese people.

Hello Iliaktida

I am sorry but I think you have grasped the wrong meaning from my objections to this proposal. It's a shame that because of that you felt it necessary to put down Cypriots. I have nothing against the Lebanese and no real objections to a bridge being built (if necessary, but I don't think it is as ferries should be enough). My objections to this IDEA of a bridge were that it could give Turkey the same idea to perhaps build a bridge between Turkey and Cyprus. It is to Turkish illegal immigrants coming more readily, over a bridge from Turkey to Cyprus, that I would find invasive. Turkey is 99% Islamic state and is becoming progressively more fundamentalist (for example, last week there was a report Turkey was forbidding lipstick). Their culture destroys our culture. They are 80Million and we are few.
