I think the plan may well be for the west, is to give Erdogan all the rope he needs to become a true dictator like Saddam, Assad, Mubarak, Qaddafi and likes and then "hang" him with the same rope. It's much easier justifying getting rid of a tyrant than someone like Erdogan who keeps getting on and off the "Democracy Bus".

I think they should give this to the TCs for old time’s sake… Kinda like a goodbye gift.

And maybe they can make a ring out of it or something… :?

It never ceases to amaze me that the slogan for many GCs seems to be “Keep Turkey out of the EU and in Northern Cyprus”.

I am also amazed by those who insinuate she should just be let in, even though she has not complied with a single point of the Copenhagen criteria.

Yes, quite, and that's one of the points... meet the Copenhagen Criteria... and the Ankara Protocol vis-a-vis CY ... and make progress moving towards convergences in all those Chapters

... and stop Bagis and a few others in Turkey seeing the Accession Process as an endless negotiation.

Exactly Bill,

Since when were the Greek Cypriots responsible for the conduct of Turks and their compliance with the Copenhagen criteria?

What should GCs do?

Let's have your take on the matter...

I think Erdogan and Co., even if they wanted to go through with the Ankara protocol or Copenhagen Criteria, don't have the consensus of the Turks to follow through. It was Erdpgan who signed the Ankara protocol and pushed through with the Ap plan more then 10 years ago, which was touted as a major compromise by the Turks(but still bullshit)... They've been losing in their bid to reign in Turkey towards the west. Bagis probably plays very well in the Turk press.
