Basically, just inform them that you would like to finish your secondary education first. They will allow that without any problems.

Eventually, I suggest you do serve your time there. It will be a life changing experience that will teach you many things which will allow you to be a better, more reliable person in the future. If you are both intelligent and athletic you can apply and attempt examinations to become an officer cadet. This will involve training in Greece and visiting your family more often.

P.S My parents don't mind getting the Cypriot passport terminated, because they agree about my problem with school.

Thank you!!

Postponing your military service to finish high school is not an issue. Just visit the ministry of defense with all your paperwork and sort it out.

As for evading your service altogether… unless you’re gay why would you want to do that?

EVERYBODY serves his country unless you plan on leaving Cyprus and never returning in which case good luck and don’t come back!

- Anyway, I thought you don't have to do it till you are at least 18 years old?

If ELAM takes control, this shite will change immediately. All CY citizens will only be allowed of a single citizenship, and all men and women will have to serve 18 months of active military service.

So we don't need to worry about that then!

You should only worry if you're not a Cypriot.

I personally know of 2 cases.

1. Cypriot mother, Greek father. Did NOT do army.
2. Swedish mother, Cypriot father. DID army. (The parents put up a hell of a fight at the Ministry of Defense. The Swedish embassy got involved, when the dust settled, the kid had to go. case closed.)

Today my mother got a call saying that I have to go to the army. I am only 16 right now and turn 17 next year in February.
I am behind 1 1/2 years in school (because of where I come from, we start later) and I really cant afford to lose time in the army!

You will not be called up until you're 18 and if you have not finished school by then, it will be postponed!

Bottom line is you are a citizen and have a mandatory obligation! You should not be looking at ways to circumvent your obligation if you intend on living in Cyprus!

I suggest you make the most of it. Try to get a commission as an Officer Cadet. It will give you a career option if you are interested. If you are very fit and strong, then you could also try to serve in OYK or LOK. You will absolutely love and enjoy your time in the CNG. You will also make life long friends who will mean more to you than family even.

I have not served in the CNG so I can't answer any questions on what it is like but from what I heard, it is a piece of cake unless you become an Officer Cader, OYK or LOK. If that is a case then be prepared for challenges and the time of your life!

Enjoy and make the most of it!

Cypriots belittle the CNG and that is unfortunate!

Even your family will have access to you and bring you food etc! Personally, I think that is wrong! You should never be allowed out of camp, contact with family or girlfriend, no tv, no radio, no mobile phones, no newspaper and no contact with the outside world for the first 3 months.

You will have experiences you will never forget.

That was the old rule, and the idea behind it was that the lad would do military service in his father's country, e.g., for case (1.): Greek army.
