Aegean and Cyprus Airways

With the demise of Olympic Airways we have seen Aegean Airlines fill the void remarkably and achieving great results. Credit to Aegean Airlines, for giving Greece a new worthy Flag Carrier. The airline must be congratulated.

Now Olympic Airways was an airline I very much loved and I feel very sad that it had failed. I had a very big sentimental attachment to Olympic Airways. My Godsister worked for the airline and I new many of the Pilots. It was an airline I very nearly worked for back then when I was young, green and wet behind the ears. At the time I was also seeing a really nice Greek Girl and had every intention of living in Greece. Olympic always treated me as a VIP whenever I traveled with them and I always made a point of traveling with Olympic as my Airline of choice. I was always upgraded to Business or First Class and I had free access to the Flight Deck whenever I liked and pretty much spent all my time there chatting with the Flight Crew and flirting with the cute Flight Attendants. But alas, Olympic went down.

But as I said, now we have Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air. Aegean own Olympic and both companies are doing very well. It is good to see that the Olympic Livery is still flying.

So things looking better for Greek Aviation which I am very pleased to see.

Greece is a good example for Cyprus here. I feel it is imminent that Cypriot Aviation is about to undergo massive change. I believe it is a matter of time before Cyprus Airways fold.

Interestingly, let us compare Aegean to Cyprus Airways

Aegean Fleet 30 A319/A320/A321 + 5 A320s on order
Cyprus Airways Fleet 12 A319/A320 (before restructure)

Aegean 2300 staff
Cyprus Airways 1150 staff

Can anyone see what the issue here is?

Anyway, I hope that there is a resurgence in Cyprus from the ashes should Cyprus Airways fold (which i believe it will).

The new company can look upon Aegean and Olympic Air as good examples to follow.

So I look forward to the new Cyprus Air taking to the sky and giving Aegean a good run for their money! :D

With respect to Cyprus Airways and the financial burden of not being allowed to enter Ankara FIR for their Northern Routes to Russia, it would seem logical that the Company could be eligible to sue Turkey for economic damaged within the European Courts and ICJ.

Turkey's actions do contravene EU Fair Trading practices and this has already been acknowledged.

Are there any lawyers out there willing to take this on? It would be worth millions.
