Are they getting better of worst? This weekend a referee showed 2 red cards on AEL players for no reason so they wouldn't be able to play with Apoel next week  :x

The issue is now on international press:

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) - A Cypriot soccer referee has resigned after repeated threats against his life.

Costas Theodotou quit after receiving threatening phone calls at home from supporters unhappy with the quality of his refereeing, officials said Tuesday. One of the calls was answered by Theodotou's six-year-old daughter. Three other referees also said they had received threatening calls.

Several of the first division's 18 referees are now thinking of boycotting games this weekend, the head of the referees' association told The Associated Press.

"I have received seven or eight calls from colleagues who said they were fed up with the situation," Costas Constantinou said.

Verbal abuse from supporters had exceeded all reasonable levels, he said, adding that the clubs themselves were often to blame.

"The way some club officials act spurs fans to violence and hooliganism. They have turned football into a battlefield," Constantinou said.

Three players were sent off in a bad-tempered cup match at the weekend between AEL Limassol and Olympiakos Nicosia - one from Olympiakos and two from AEL. Olympiakos won the game 2-1.

The referee of that match, Stelios Tryfonos, said he later received threatening phone calls.
