Love and Hate

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Love and Hate

Postby Piratis » Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:41 am

World history is full with crimes, wars, and many other conflicts. Recent examples are the Nazis and the atomic bombs in Japan. Terrible things! Yet people have manage to leave those things behind. Why? Because it was for their interest to do so.

In Cyprus we had our conflicts and crimes also. If we narrow it down to the conflicts between turks and greeks in Cyprus, that start since the Ottomans captured our island, you will see that Greeks suffered from Turks way more than Turks suffered from Greeks. Then why is it that our Turkish Cypriot friends always want to remind as about how 'evil' we are because of some greek Cypriot actions that took place within less than 2 decades (a very small part of our history) ?

The answer is simple: They want to maintain the hate and the conflict because this is their only excuse why Cyprus should not be totally unified.
How can we come to an understanding and a loving relationship when one of the partners actually benefits from hate and separation?

This is why Turkish Cypriots keep recycling nonsense that Greek Cypriots want to dominate them, or to swallow them, kill them etc. Because they have something to gain from this hate, thats why.

What they want to gain: More power that proportionately belongs to them.
More land that proportionately belongs to them. And using the above 2, more money that proportionately belongs to them.

It is really sad that when the people of Europe are coming together leaving behind 2 world wars, in Cyprus hate is maintained by some people in order to gain on the expense of some others.

If you cannot understand why it matters to TC that a truthful version of how they lived (and suffered) in Cyprus is _accpeted_ rather than denied and why such is a pre requist of any chance for true peace and unity Cyprus then I can not help you. I do not wish to remind you of GC 'evils' from the past. I seek to counter your assertations that you regulalry make about the past that only make ture peace a distant hope. Assertations like GC did nothing to drive TC into enclaves. GC did nothing to cause TC to fear living amongst them. EOKA was purely a struggle against British coloinal oppression. That GC abondoned all hope and desire for Enosis and did nothing to try and achieve it after 1960. That GC did nothing to try and undermine the 1960 consitituion and force a breakdown. That the proposed revisions to the consitituion were aimed solely at making the state function and had nothing to do with trying to remove TC communites rights and ensure GC domination in Cyprus without limit. In order to try and make you realise that this version of history is not the one lived by many TC in that period I have to remind you of GC 'evils'. Not because I wish to constantly repeat them but because you wish to constantly deny, diminish, diregard or forget them. If you could accept that there were reasons why the situation of many TC was unacceptable and unbearable by any measure from 63-74 and not solely because of their secret desire to partition Cyprus but also because of GC actions , behaviours and desires - then I would be more than happy to move on. The probelm is you insist that all that TC suffered in period 63-74 was the result of TC desire to partition the island. You insist that GC and the GC run state did nothing to oppress the TC minority in that period. You insist that there was no plan to remove (by any means legal or not by force if necessary) TC consitutional protections to make clear the route to total GC control of Cyprus (and at that time enosis).

The answer is actualy the reverse. I remind you of what it meant to some to live as a TC minority in Cyprus in the period 63-74 because I want to put an end to this hatred. You do not put an end to hatred by forgetting or denying the causes of the hatred. You put an end to it by accepting it happened not denying it. Look at the 'truth and rconcillation' process in SA.

You do not think it is valid that TC have fears about living in a united Cyprus because the last time they did there was death, murder, lawlessness, fear and terrorism? You think that is an excuse for having concerns about future unity and not a reason?

It is nonsense that GC wanted to dominate TC in cyprus? So if the thirteen ammendments to the consitituion had just been accepted by TC, what would have stopped Enosis? Or a law stating Greek should be the sole offical language or anything else that would have been acceptable to the GC community but not the TC community? Nothing would have stopped it for the GC domination of Cyprus would have been complete.
It is nonsesne that GC wanted to kill TC in the past? Were all the TC deaths at GC hands accidents then?

No what we want to gain is a right to determine the future of the TC community within Cyprus. To work in a framework of 'partnership' with the GC community and not one of (dominant) majority vs (subsevient) minority.

Europe sets an example of comming togeather and leaving past hatred behind, yet the proposed settlement that had the TOTAL support of the EU was actualy nothing but a unfair illegal foreign plan designed to enslave Cyprus to the needs of foriegn powers?

You just proove my point.

First you start in a provocative way by saying lies. I never claimed that TCs did not suffer, I said many times that EOKA members made crimes etc etc. Yet, you forget those things. Why? Because your aim is to present us as evil. To maintian hate and conflict.

Anyways, if you believe that you will gain something from recycling the propaganda and maintaining the hate then go ahead.

Oh Piratis, you live in denial.

I thought we were just beginning to agree on some things.

I (we) will never agree on what you want me to agree. You didn't get it yet? 30 years were not enough for you to realize that you can not gain anything from your illegal actions?

I have told you I am not G, T, GC or TC. It is not my actions.

When both sides start accepting blame instead of blaming it on others - then we will see some progress.

What Piratis said is very true. If Turkish Cypriots admited that they haave nothing to be afraid of us when Cyprus is an EU country they would just be equal Cypriots like all other Cypriot communities (Greek Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians). But they want more land than what their population is, they want more power. This is why they want to keep hate between us.

Why do you Piratis insist on bringing up the past maybe you should spend more time dwelling on the present and future if you want to be useful in uniting our island.

At the moment all i see you doing on this forum is enticing people into heated discussions of you done this and that, there is nothing constructive in doing that as most people know about the past, but then maybe you get a peverse satisfaction from pointing fingers at people, i don't know but if there is ever an opening for someone to just generally be a prat and live in the past you will get the job hands down.

A lot of wrongs were done by all noone is whiter than white so lets all just get on with it and at least turn our bitter past into a rosey future.

Brother, I agree with what you say that we should look into the future. I tried to do this many times. Unfortunately some others try to use the past as an excuse to enforce in Cyprus something undemocratic, with no respect to human rights.

Try to talk about about a true democracy the way they have it in all other EU countries, and then you will see how many people will come and say "yes, but in Cyprus we can't have that because 40 years ago such and such happened..." I am more than willing to discuss the future, but unfortunately some others are stuck in the past because they decided that this is going to benefit them.

O.K i understand where you coming from but we must not stoop down to there level we as the people of cyprus must unite and it will take persons like you and i to make this happen i personally forgive the people of past for there wrong doings in the hope that we the cypriots can make a rosier future for our children, and lets remember that as a divided people we are weak as a united people we are strong hence the corrupt few know that by us being divided they control us all by being united we the people of cyprus would control our future and we would be strong.

Hence i will instal some national pride irrelivant of what side you are OUR philosophy will be CYPRUS FOR THE CYPRIOTS.
