This news is spreading all over the world, Cyprus is becoming infamous for animal abuse and the most effective way to stop this is to force the government to take action against animal cruelty. If there is an 'RSPCA' equivalent, get them to actually do something because they are useless right now!

You can sign a petition to help make this happen.

The occupation is illegal (to say the least) and you think that forgetting this and working together is going to solve the problem? Then maybe the solution to illegal bird trapping is not to prosecute those who act illegally but to go to work together with them. Set up a few traps, eat some ampelopoullia and think that working together with them will solve the problem?

Perfect analogy.

Bollocks, Its all a part of trying to divert attention.

One dead poodle/terrier and Cyprus has become “infamous” according to you but I guess you may have a point given that England can’t keep up with animal cruelty any more…

So rather than proving my point by wasting time 'getting one over' on me actually 'do' something about it GR.

Very easy to find news about this 'insignificant' act. Do you know how many charities have been formed here in the UK to help against animal cruelty in Cyprus and rehome abused animals??? But then of course the UK is just as bad according to you - it makes news because animal cruelty actually makes the news here whereas in Cyprus it is an accepted way of life so not important enough. As the original post states - an attitude change is needed.

Ah yes, the FOREIGNER superiority complex. We know it well.

Here's how it works.

Take an incident, sensationalize to the max.
Ignore the incidents happening in your own country, apparently its 'superior' and so vast that it's automatically exempt from criticism.
Make sure you label the entire country. That's right , make sure you use the word 'Cypriots', regardless if one of the perps was a foreign national.
Sit back and gloat about how you've exposed the biblical scale of animal cruelty in CY while cute little foxes are slaughtered en masse and dogs are convulsing to death from antifreeze poisonings somewhere 'else'.

So rather than doing something to prove the point of this post is wrong you argue and prove that attitudes really do need to change.

By the way the person who wrote 'Cypriots' is in fact .....a Cypriot.

Well done!

Unfortunately, there's a LOT of denial in the UK about the extent of animal abuse in British homes. I support a number of animal charities and anti-vivisection societies so I know many Brits turn a blind eye to cruelty in the UK (much as happens elsewhere).

Sadly, this cruelty also extends from animals to children to elderly people - all the weak of society are abused in the UK. Responsibility tossed aside to the RSPCA or to Social Services or to Care homes or Hospices - with all the hidden sick-abuses finally being revealed as CCTV cameras operate covertly.

But the only way some imperial-minded Brits, with their stiff-upper lips, can cope with this massive cruelty is to pretend that it is much worse "abroad". We see this oblivion to the log in their own eyes exhibited here.

When I posted the very first post my intention was to highlight the contrast in attitudes between one elderly couple of Cypriots and another. Further more I did not suggest that cruelty to animals is either unique or prevalent to Cyprus.

There is certainly cruelty in the UK as indeed there is in every part of the world, attitudes however in the UK are on the whole pro animal welfare, the large majority of UK citizens have a very healthy attitude towards animals, we need this in Cyprus too, as a Cypriot I recognize the shortcomings and accept that a change is needed.

Every pet owner is a criminal, because obviously (s)he uses the pet for his/her own satisfaction.

Ban pet ownership now. Where's the petition to sign?
