It's not on for some of us to sign a petition addressed in any way to "trnc".

... but let's recognise that this is largely a matter of the right to conscientious objection. The more savvy amongst us will also see it as chance to highlight "trnc"s appalling HR record by supporting MK in other ways.

Fully agree with you BillC.

No Cypriot should be signing this document addressed to the "trnc".

Tsukoui, do not sign!

I have not signed the petition and I am going to raise the issue of it recognising the pseudo-state with its originators. What would be your position if it were addressed to Turkey?

Anything addressed to Turkey as Occupation Power shouldn't be a problem, although it prob wouldn't keep some hardliners happy.

After all and as an example, all those nice little victories at the ECHR were specifically addressed to and against Turkey.

Oh and here's a start...

Bill, I'm not going to pressure you if you don't want to, but it is easy:

http://www.change.org/

You can start your petition just by answering three simple questions.

Oh, setting them up (on Change for instance) is a piece of piss nowadays... but getting people to sign CY petitions is terribly hard work.

Prefer to go out beyond CY on this one... in to the international HR arena. In much the same way as happened with the Sarris affair of a couple of years ago, which highlighted the homophobia of "trnc".

Anyways, here's some more on the MK story from Parikiaki.

All the political parties (from both sides of the cease-fire) gave their support to MK at their regular meeting in the BZ...

"... Tomova (..."Slovak Ambassador" ...) stressed that the political parties express their support and solidarity towards Murat Kanatli, the Secretary of the New Cyprus party, who has been imprisoned for his political beliefs and ask for his immediate liberation. “Conscientious objection is a human right that should be respected and implemented”.

Oguz Ozan, a member of the party council of New Cyprus party participated at today’s meeting instead of Murat Kanatli who is detained since yesterday after a “military court” in the occupied areas of Cyprus sentenced him to 10 days in jail because he declared his conscientious objection and refused to do “military service” since 2009. ..."
