W8? Most people that have bought kit with W8 installed have downgraded to W7!

That's why I said W7 if not w8 but either one would still be better than XP with no ongoing support.

I have a Windows Vista machine at home (don't ask me why!), support for vista was stopped 2 years ago and I haven't had any problems with certificates or anything else!

My desktop was 8 years old and knackered like me so I treated myself to a new Lenovo cost £600 with Windows 8.1 'cos 8.0 was crap I was told. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH. The machine was ok but 8.1 is awful, a huge change from the previous systems I had used. I took it back after 2 days, got a refund and bought a MacBook Pro, I wish I had bought a Mac years ago. I was told in the store (John Lewis) that others had bought Macs rather than have to suffer Windows 8.

Thanks for the info GR, some people I know use XP.

Err, no XP is much faster at doing pretty much anything than the newer Windows versions.

XP is much older than Vista.

Why don’t you test it?

If you’ve got the time and you're bored set your clock’s year back by 5 and then try 10 and then 15 years. Eventually you'll find how long it'll take for Vista to start playing up on the net.

What a shame... Lenovo is the best brand... you could've replaced Win 8 with Win 7 because Lenovo has drivers for all windows versions even XP!

Both my sons have Macs, they persuaded me. I get the impression that the Mac is better built and will last longer. The battery seems to run it for ages, possibly because it does not get hot and doesn't need a fan.
