Complex citizenship situation

Postby gtny » Fri Apr 25, 2014 1:25 pm

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you can answer my question. I'm in a rather complex situation. I'm a US citizen currently residing in the UK on a Tier 4 student Visa whilst studying, and would like to stay in the UK indefinitely. Unfortunately as a US citizen I am not eligible to stay past the expiration date on my tier 4 visa. What does this have to do with Cyprus? Well, my father was born and raised in Cyprus (he's Greek Cypriot) and immigrated to the USA after he was released from being a Prisoner of War in '74. So as a child of Greek Cypriot citizen I know am entitled to Cypriot citizenship by descent. I was wondering if it is possible to apply for and obtain a cypriot passport using my father's documentation order to stay in the UK under the EU convention, without going to Cyprus as I have no desire to undertake compulsory military service.

You should ask at the Cyprus Embassy in the UK.
