Surely it is Putin that is the megalomaniac should he have made such a stupid threat!

I mean seriously, who the hell is going to send their army to die over something so STUPID!

The Turks, and they will kill a lot of people in the process too.

Defending your country is not so stupid!

It is Russia that has allegedly (I say that because I don't believe Russia would have said such a STUPID thing) threatened Turkey with war over something so stupid, not the Turks. The Turks have a right to defend themselves under such circumstances, and let's not forget they will have the support of NATO. Will Russia risk a war with NATO? I think not!

That's what NATO is for. To protect and defend if necessary member states from foreign aggression. Turkey and Greece and member states and hence under NATO's protection and security umbrella. One of the biggest mistakes Makarios made was not becoming a part of the very same umbrella! SHAME!!!

I am convinced Paphitis that they could turn Ayia Sophia in to a mosque and we will still be talking about EU membership with them and about building more mosques in Europe too.

I'm not convined they will do that. Sorry but it is a tourism draw card for them.

I cannot find any other reference to Putin threatening war if the Tur*s turn Agia Sofia into a mosque. Is there a verifiable credible link?

I am bitterly opposed to the proposal to use the Agia Sophia for Moslem prayers and have invited colleagues at work to sign petitions against the move. I just doubt Putin is that keen on war with Nato.

Putin wouldn't be going to war with NATO over this - just with Turkey. There's no other country would defend Turkey's actions if they once again tried to turn Ayia Sophia into a mosque. If Turkey wasn't so afraid of Russia's (plus many other countries) reaction Erdogan would have done it by now ...

Even Greece is obligated to defend Turkey. FACT!

And yes, after Crimea, this would be the straw that breaks the camels back. NATO will go to war and not doing so would actually destroy the alliance. There would be no other option.

Turkey has nothing to be afraid of. That is of course if Russia made these threats which I highly doubt!

The stupid thing of all is that Greece has enjoyed decades of security as a member of NATO. Turkey is unable to do anything against Greece let alone invade a island or 2.

If Greece was our true friend, then they would have told Makarios to smarten up and join the alliance as opposed to f@#king around with the countries security and defence to appease populist voter sentiment and stupid AKEL! We would not be in our current deplorable state today.

It also just goes to show how STUPID GD are!

Don't poke the bear!

That is what will happen to Russia if they keep poking the NATO Bear!
