Left Cyprus 50 years ago!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Perhaps it's because we never left Cyprus in the first place voluntarily is the reason why it isn't........... OVER!

It’s over in the following sense:

Having invested so much overseas (well half a century’s worth) and having reached the ripe old age of 65ish, there’s as much chance as you having a life here again in Cyprus (under any of your desired political solutions) as there is in VP doing a 180 degree turn and supporting enosis with Greece! :)

How’s that for a contrast?

In other words Kiakpu, you are “here” in this virtual “Cyprus” we call the CF because it’s the best “Cyprus” you’ve got… but of course it’s nothing more than a computer located somewhere in the US (funnily enough the CF is closer to you than to us here in Cyprus) where one can log onto and pretend to be in Cyprus by talking about Cyprus!

It’s sad but true… :?

You can retire in Cyprus! I don't know why you would want to but you can and some have and will do so in the future.

As for me, my retirement country is GREECE! Bueatiful as all hell, nice people, and much cheaper than Australia and more retiree friendly! :D

The key is to have a home in Cyprus as well for quick visits and a quick EXIT!

He lived in the USA the archetypical federation of the world and now he lives in Switzerland, a model we often cite when discussing a possible Cyprus solution. His opinion therefore has added weight.

:? There’s no comparison between the states he’s lived in and what was being proposed for Cyprus.

Your post only reveals that you didn’t really understand what was being proposed for Cyprus but don’t let it worry you too much because you’re in the overwhelming majority…

What was being proposed (Annan) was no where near a FEDERATION.

They called it a Federation but it wasn't.

If Cyprus ends up with a True Federation style country like US, Switzerland, Canada, AUS, Germany, then jump on it! Otherwise forget about it!

We left when I was very young but still some smells are very emotive for me Paphitis. I suppose home is where the smell is :D good or bad.

Good time to revive my excellent poem

Before we left.

At best I can remember bullets

Fireflies travelling at the speed of light in the night

At best I can remember babutsa

Invisible needles that burn in your hands for days

At best I can remember waking up

Seeing a Greek doctor and my mother by my bed

I cannot remember the ice cream they gave me to soothe my tonsilless throat

At best I can remember gunfire

Single shot for Turkish

Machine gun for Greek

At best I long for the smell of dusty donkeys and fig trees

At best I can remember the smell of the hamam

I can remember the well-ordered and expensive possessions of our English neighbour that was never there

I long to sleep under the trees on an old iron bed in the middle of summer

I long for the Cyprus that was but never to be

Normal service will be resumed when the Turks are back in Turkey.

It's up to the true TCs to help this time round too ...

Zan, you would be more than welcome to stay in my humble home in Cyprus.

Cyprus is what you make it. It's going to be what the next generation make of it. There are no gunshots and there never will be again.

Zan, I am a lot younger than most of the members on this forum.

As you can see, there is a generational mentality difference between myself, other young Cypriots and the rest of the forum which is an older demographic.

The young generations are actually very astute. Many were educated in the US, UK and other countries. Therefore they have lived in other countries and have adopted a more international mindset.

It gets even better with the very young ones.

It's inevitable Zan. Resistance is futile.

I disagree the younger generations dont know the other side nor do they care to unite, the few that thought they were pro union took a big GC slap in the face during the EU elections, it provided them with first hand knowledge of how it would be uniting with GCs. 10 years of the borders being open and we are no closer now than we were when is was closed.
