DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT PROSTATE CANCER

Postby miltiades » Sun Jul 13, 2014 12:51 pm

Wondering if anyone on this forum knows anything about Prostate cancer, it mostly effects older men, perhaps someone has a father, grandfather, uncle etc who has had PC.

I'm currently carrying out a research on Prost.Cancer and options available to those affected by an enlarged Prostate, have had a biopsy and have been given positive results.

Only serious comments please.

Milti, just want clarification if I may.

Do you mean "positive” as in GOOD results or "positive" as in BAD results?

I know someone in their mid 60's has/had Prostate Cancer and eventually had to have his testicles removed. I had lunch with him last week and his general health is not the best sorry to say.

Hi Miltiades,

My father was diagnosed with advanced pc in October 2012, he's still with us, thankfully.

I found this website excellent for finding information.

Positive cancer .

The information that I'm really looking for is to the options chosen by anyone, ie Radical prostatectomy, radiotherapy, surveillance etc. After effects following either after op or radiotherapy.

I have carried out extensive research, what I really want to know is what option/s anyone chose and the ensuing after effects.

Do you know what your fathers Gleason score was when diagnosed, also do you know the PSA then and now ?
Grateful for any feed back , all the best to your father.

I'm sorry m, I can't answer your questions because my father didn't want to know the details.

I do know that his psa result was in the thousands when diagnosed. It came down to 150 and has started creeping up again.

He was diagnosed as incurable and is having palliative treatment.

Sorry to hear this, I wish him all the best. In most cases Prostate cancer, if localised in the Prostate, can be cured.

My ex-GP, now retired, was diagnosed 10 years ago with Gleason score of 6, 2 being the lowest and 10 the highest. He opted for surveillance and he is having regular monitors of his PSA levels.

Hi Milti,

Do some research on saw palmetto as well as its side effects.

In Belgium, researchers gave saw palmetto extract to 505 men with benign prostate disease. At the end of the trial, the researchers concluded that saw palmetto had aided urinary flow, reduced residual urinary volume and prostate size, and otherwise improved the patients' quality of life. Saw palmetto, moreover, began to produce results within 45 days.

After 90 days of saw palmetto treatment, 88 percent of patients and their physicians said they considered the therapy to be effective. Said the Belgian researchers: "The extract of saw palmetto appears to be an effective and well-tolerated pharmacologic agent in treating urinary problems accompanying benign prostate hypertrophy."

The cancer is malignant so only medical intervention can cure.
No urinary problems at all, but it can still occur.

Apparently if one lives long enough, men only, one will get prostate cancer.

Treatable and curable but can leave someone either incontinent or worst ...impotent, following removal or radiotherapy. !!!!
