Now where did that money come from? It came from the A League, clubs, sponsorships and Murdoch.

They only got 1 vote but we all know why. It was revealed that QATAR had paid $6 million in bribes.

Well now the ASF las launched legal action against FIFA. Frank Lowy is asking that FIFA pay all losses back to the ASF.

The Australian Soccer Team usually played it's games at the MCG in front of 100,000 spectators. It's like 2 times the Maracana in Brazil. Even friendlies are in front of 100,000 fans.

When they played Greece in 2006, it was at the MCG in front of 99,000 fans.

They had 99,000 fans because the Australians finally got someone to take the trip that was of some significance. The Greeks were the European Champions. (Albeit the Champs did treat the the trip as a jolly and didn't take the game too seriously) but it was still a big deal for Australia to host the Euro Champs...........thus the large crowd.

Btw....the headline of the Ozzie site says "APOEL 1 Ajax 1: Manduca rescues point for hosts". It doesn't talk of Ajax or Barcelona, it talks about how Manduca rescued the point for APOEL.

So? They also report on Valetta from Malta.

The Aussies have hosted Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Italy, Holland, France, Spain, England, and many more.

Quite a lot think it's worth taking the trip in order to play at one of the biggest Stadiums in the world.

Clubs like Manchester City, and Real Madrid come every year. They actually have interests here too.

Even a friendly against Qatar gets 100,000.

If Cyprus come, there will be 100,000 come to watch that game too and you will get a new arshole ripped into you for the experience just like Appollon did by Villarral. The MCG is a very intimidating stadium.

The thing is, Paphitis is not stupid, I think he fully understands the mindblowing achievements of Cyprus in European football relative to size and population.
Because if you had to try and explain it scientifically and statistically, it just simply doesn't add up.

It's like Malta, Andorra, Luxembourg, San Marino... etc putting teams into the Champions League. Get my drift?
Statistically, it's impossible, especially 3 times!

He wouldn't be so anti Cyprus, if some you forum hoodlums weren't bashing him and Australia.
Australia is a world power in sports, make no mistake.
They live and breathe sports, trust me.
Just because the majority of the population doesn't worship football doesn't mean they're sh**.
If 99 percent of the pop had to be actively engaged in football, they'd be hitting World Cup finals.
Such are the standards in Australia.

Yes well if Soccer was the most popular sport in Australia, then Australia would be rivaling Brazil and Germany. No doubt about it.

Soccer has a lot of competition but the sport is doing very well and Australia is producing a lot of talent that is highly regarded and sort after. There are 300+ professional footballers playing in Europe alone. Imagine if they all were in the A League.

And yes, I am very happy at every single achievement either from Apoel, Anorthosis or the Mouflons. Baghdatis or the shooters etc. the more the better.

But likewise, Australia is not a Soccer Minnow by any stretch and sports wise it is a very well oiled sports machine.

The Australian Team you saw play against Holland is typical of the Australian passion and competitiveness. Many teams have come to Australia and left with their tales between their legs such as Brazil, Argentina, Holland, Germany, Greece, England (they would have hated that) etc etc.

I agree. Size-wise Cyprus is a superpower in many sports, including football, tennis, karate, gymnastics, rugby, etc.

It's important to be good at football (soccer for Paphitis), because overall it's the most important sport in the world... Either you like it or not. 8)

Unfortunately for our friend Paphitis, people in Europe don't give a f*ck about Australian sports, or Australia in general.

But indeed we are always excited when we watch an Australian croc, or kangaroo ... or a koala!

Unfortunately for you, it's only Cyprus that does 't care because they think they are the "Center of the Universe".

Everyone else in Western Europe, Middle East and North America do monitor the goings on in Australia, because Australia is one of the Meccas of International Sport, and everything in Australia is of very high standard and people are generally interested. it's big business.

No Soccer is NOT the most important sport in the world at all. sorry but you're deluded on that. A sports fan only need to go to a country like the U.S. or Australia to see the diversity and color sports have to offer, including Football or Soccer as they call it. In both countries, it is fully professional with a lot more money in the US or Australia than in Cyprus or Greece by a long way, but not only this, you have everything, a menu of sport left right and centre and in all directions in those countries not just Soccer, Soccer, Soccer, Soccer and more Soccer.
