Welcome Baggieboy,

My advice to you upon coming to Cyprus is to ensure you don’t make this list of losers who just got caught with their pants down defrauding their country out of bogus pensions while criticizing Cypriot corruption on the Cyprus Mail 24/7 and making complete fools of themselves!

“British expats in Cyprus investigated for benefits fraud”

http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/08/11/briti ... its-fraud/

You’ll note that the usual characters that had so much to say against Cyprus on every other aricle/thread are suddenly MISSING from this thread!

Completely vanished!

You adapt quickly. Good luck!

Thanks guys. No worries on that score GR - never claimed a benefit in my life, but all those years of hard graft have finally paid off - but I agree it's about time such individuals were brought to book.

The best wishes from me to all of you. Cyprus is a wonderful place to live, the weather the people are the best you can find anywhere in Europe.

Contrary to some views, the English are well liked by the Cypriots, after all most Cypriots have some connection to England.

My late wife, as English as a cup of tea spent much time in Cyprus visiting our daughter, she adored the island and requested that she be burried there.

Together for 46 years, started visiting Cyprus in 1966, never once did she encountered any animosity towards the English, she looked very English. She avoided emotional issues such as politics and Turkey. She adored all of Cyprus and never had a bad word to say against the T/Cs.
She spoke no Greek apart from a few words.

The only advice I would dare give you is to avoid any political discussions which Im sure you allready know, be yourselves and you will be just fine.

Thanks for your encouraging words Miltiades. I know there's banter here, but we've always felt very welcome in Cyprus and have made a number of Cypriot friends during our visits.

Thank you everyone. Will hopefully have our long term accommodation sorted out soon. Exciting, yet nervous times! Can only access internet at internet cafes at the moment, so apologies for my delay in replying.
