So this is the 'sunny Cyprus' they keep talking about.

This problem is a yearly phenomenon.
Every friggin year the same story... parts of Nicosia get flooded.
They need to implement an effective storm drainage system.

Sure, but when some mayor/MP have syphoned off the cash and some other dirty dealing what can one expect. We are in Cyprus you know, anything goes, FFS.

It's the same the whole world over, reh. Does anyone respect their politicians any more?

In a similar vein, corrupt councils in collusion with their cronies called "Building Developers" built houses on ancient flood plains, against all rational judgement, and then after selling off these countless cheap homes, the developers and councillors are nowhere to be found as month after month whole housing estates are flooded and people evicted - with only the taxpayer left to foot the bill!

No it's not! If any public works contracts were handed out without going through a tender process, all shit will break loose!

There are also Independent Corruption Commissions which look through all these processes - 3 former ministers have currently been charged and face jail time.

When it go down, it goes down big time and it's good to see that they are not immune.

You are complaining to the wrong person darling. The Civil Servents (Mayors, MPs, Councillors) have brought Cyprus into disrepute, They have blacken our good name world wide, who the F will trust us now.

It is sickening and disgusting that these, high position officials are involved in all of this and one wonders why Cyprus is in the shits. Oh, and not forgetting our law enforcement officiers with their fake degrees and the college head who issued them for a price. Gamoto ton sh*ston tous how much more shit can we take.

So, if you want to reprimand anyone for saying any anti Cyprus stuff, go the the government and start there. The whole place makes my stomach turn. I don't care that the other countries do this, I am concerned about Cyprus. F peasants all of them.

Yes, we do shout loud and clear and let the world know when we spot injustice. We have made everyone believe that is all there is to Cyprus. Unfortunately, the cases of building on ancient flood plains, to which I was referring, were in the UK :) - which proves how well the Brits silence their internal problems.

It's the same the whole world over ... but the wealthier countries promote themselves as bastions of purity.

No one believes this about Cyprus, and these things can occur elsewhere.

But we do lack a lot of transparency, and high officials seem to think they have immunity to do what they want. there is no independent third umpire just to keep an eye on things. I think that is the issue.

It was completely disgusting what had occurred at the Paphos Municipality. The people are disappointed and already lacked trust in their officials from before.

What is great is the fact that they are got their arses busted big time. This is fantastic. Now what the people need is for these high officials to be convicted and for them to do their time.
