Hate to say this, but I have lived in Qatar and quite a few of my colleagues had worked in Saudi Arabia before, and they all described it as being a hostile country towards Westerners.

Are you talking about SA, as Qatar is not like that.

Yeh I know all about Qatar. Found QATAR and UAE as quite good. SA may be a bit different though.

Applied for work there and ended up being offered a position in Saudi Arabia instead based in Jeddah.

Getting further from Australia but closer to Cyprus. Toying with the idea of basing my entire family in Cyprus.

The Saudis are also offering to pay for my families accommodation, Medical, and Tuition in very expensive and elite schools. :? :?

I am talking about the impression I derived of Saudi Arabia from colleagues who have worked there. Qatar is a disgustingly racist place as far as its treatment of migrants from South Asia goes.

Don't worry Paphiti... I don't think they consider Cypriots as westerners.

From what I have heard from people who have lived there it is not family friendly. Non Muslims are very much treated as inferior. Sharia is strictly enforced with a lot of discrimination against Women, as women are generally are deemed to lack capacity to do anything: All Ladies, including visitors, are expected to dress in local style, certainly when out of any compound / in Public, and are not allowed to drive. One former resident told me of being forcibly herded out of the compound to the local market place to watch public beheadings. Plus no booze of any sort.

One of the alternatives some used was to put families in Cyprus.
