Once again ....

(We've had a few, haven't we? Andros etc.... over the years.)

Andros? That brings back memories. Thanks for that, GIG.

How many months did you serve in the CNG, you pathetic liar? Where were you in 1974?

I don’t know what he’s talking about. Moral at my camp of 48+ year olds (we’re in the last stage of the reserve) is good and they all go wearing their uniforms and are happy to let loose at the firing range. Lately they’ve introduced a little competition and if you score among the top 5 you can leave a little earlier so everyone’s trying harder to get a good aim!

I also want to know why the CNG is such a big waste of time for you Atheist!

What else would you be doing at 18? Let's face it. You probably never had a root yet, live at home with mum and dad, and if you were not gonna go and study you would probable be unemployed.

The CNG can teach you independence and give you the confidence you need in life and someone like you needs a bit of that.

Bootcamp was gruelling and I must admit there were times when you wished you weren’t there, but when you complete it you’re glad you made it without seeking an easy way out.

It better have been grueling.

I had to do it twice and I hardly ever wanted to be there because it was a huge mind fuck sesh but when you passed out you felt like you beat your demons and accomplished something.

In week 8 of my NEOC we were on HMAS Success which was a supply ship and were on our way to Tahiti. I never got there. We were told that we were not gonna graduate from Creswell and will be transferred to another ship. Next day, HMAS Kanimbla pulls along side and they sling 8 of us over the ocean whilst underway. Then back to Sydney and transferred then to Point Cook for another 11 weeks.

That was a sad day.

I served in the army the full 26 months. I studied abroad and I am serving as a reservist since I came back. Maybe I will take some photos or a video for you when I go again soon. Many of those who replied never served the CNG so they should shut up. Come first to Cyprus to serve and then you will be entitled to have your own opinion about CNG.

Paphitis, in Cyprus the navy is for the pussies who use "meso" to get there. It seems to be the same in Australia if they took somebody like you. And then there all those who use "meso" to get in offices, near their homes etc. And lets not forget all those with "psychological" issues who never serve.

Get Real, the small professional army doesn't need to hire additional privates. Most of those "monimoi" shouldn't have a rank higher than a private and should be turned into privates if they want to keep their jobs. So no additional expenses in my proposal. Such an army will not be able to achieve anything more or anything less than what we have now but it will be much cheaper.

Nikitas, I am not a "defeatist" I am just being realistic. We have already being defeated militarily. Turkey is occupying 1/3rd of the island for 40 years and we say that the solution will be political. It couldn't be more clear that we were defeated and that we accepted the defeat. Now if we don't wake up and recover our economy then we will also be defeated politically and have some Turkish solution imposed on us.

It seems to me most of you prefer to keep your eyes closed and dream about the impossible, than opening your eyes, facing reality and actually doing something that will prevent a second defeat for Cyprus. You are leading us straight into another defeat and you are not even aware of it, not unlike what the CNG was doing in 74.

1974 can't be considered a turkey versus cyprus war when nato including the junta were being used to invade Cyprus.. When whole battalions were moved to the southern part of the island just before the invasion.. the questions should be. Why were all the heavy equipment on the coast of Kyrenia and especially the ones a few miles from the original landing in Karavas, Kyrenia ? People were walking into the bases and picking up greased filled martin rifles and filling their pockets with bullets to go and fight the Turks, while the heavy armor was being raced back from Limassol and paphos. And one other question why was artillery taken out also with the the armor ( one Land Rover broke down in front of my house with artillery), to fight makarios supporters?
