If I had of got 'egg on my face' or been 'bruised' by 'reality' yesterday, then your post may have made some sense. As it is, it is just yet another example of how divorced from the real world GiGland actually is.

The reality is that according to OFFICIAL EU SOURCES Greece has been found to be in serious violation of its Shengen obligations in checking irregular migrants and has been told to implement corrective measures (and where the EU is offering assistance). These same official reports also confirm that unless adequate steps are taken, it is open to the commission to require full border controls, at least on a temporary basis. The press have reported this with varying degrees of accuracy, the guardian, a newspaper you are happy to quote, even suggesting it could lead to Grexit from the Euro,m but the threat is there, that whereas some countries have voluntarily partially suspended the application of Schengen, Greece runs the risk that complete suspension of Schengen will be imposed unless it takes adequate steps.

Please be assured, that is not anything I desire, and i very much wish it had not reached this stage, but it has, and that is the reality , the truth, you must deal with.

It's NOT Greece that runs the risk, idiot! It's other countries that are going to risk plunging themselves into the dark ages with thousands of lorries waiting around Germany, France etc to have extra checks! All those frigging German cars and washing machines and vacuum cleaners ... all waiting and waiting and waiting .....Stop being stupid as I've had enough of your "Grexit" mentality morphing here too!

Considering you normally slag off the EU, you suddenly seem to be a huge fan, I wonder why!

...good point.

Years ago, the EU should have taken this issue more seriously. What it threatens to do (to itself) in Greece, now, (with many of its borders closed already) will surely leave Italy, and Spain, next.

...quick to criticise individual member states, slow to adapt, (sadly it seems), we see by leadership, that the EU only reacts to the conditions as they evolve into extremes.

It may well be the EU Will not need to impose any suspension of Schengen specifically on Greece, something which I repeat I have never wished for, just as I have never specifically wanted Grexit, but these were and are possibilities (and the Guardian, not me, has indicated a link between the Schengen Issue and revival of Grexit), which have possible consequences on us all and are reasonable subjects for discussion. As it is one reason that no specific action may be taken aginst Greece is becuase as several news items and blog posts report, the whole agreement might be suspended across the whole Schengen Zone, and one in Cyprus mail even predicts the end of the Euro

I am not responsible for what is in the presss, including officisl EU press releases. Otherwise I recall the outrage you expressed when I started a thread about the closure of Orphanides... Which you essentially accused me of aiming personally at you, hardly a rational reaction, but then rationality is not your strong point, as demonstrated by your denials of what is in the Eu press reports.

Do you however now accept that Greece had been found in serious violation and that that she has been obliged to tske steps to remedy? If so we will be in agreement. If not, what is the counter evidence to that contsined in the Official eu press reports.?

Erm ..... perhaps because:

European Commission - Press release
Commission discusses draft Schengen Evaluation Report on Greece

Brussels, 27 January 2016

Commission discusses draft Schengen Evaluation Report on Greece

The College of Commissioners has today, in view of the findings and their significance, taken note and discussed a draft Schengen Evaluation Report on Greece.
